Rudy T in no hurry to resume coaching

With his name beginning to surface in speculation about NBA coaching positions, Rudy Tomjanovich said Thursday he plans to sit out "at least" one more season before considering a return to the bench and has not discussed any coaching position since stepping down as Rockets coach.

Tomjanovich was listed in New Orleans media reports as one of the coaches the Hornets are considering for their vacant position. Tomjanovich said he would not rule out talking to teams looking for a coach, but said he is happy with his role scouting for the Rockets.

He and Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said they have not been contacted by anyone from the Hornets about talking with Tomjanovich.

Former Nets coach Byron Scott is scheduled to be interviewed this weekend. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that former head coaches Brian Hill, George Karl, Mike Fratello and Tomjanovich have been considered.

"I have a little plan to wait a couple years to watch my health," Tomjanovich said. "That doesn't mean I wouldn't listen. Right now, I'm not looking to do anything. I want to get another year, at least another year, maybe more, of health under my belt."

Tomjanovich's cancer treatment removed the abnormal cells that had been found in the lining of his bladder during the Rockets' 2002-03 season. He scouted for the Rockets throughout the 2003-04 season.

"I love what I do," he said. "I still love being part of the Rockets and probably always will."

We must get rid of Jeff Van disgruntled *** as soon as possible, before he destroys my all-time favorite team.

Rudy is more than ready to resume his position as the leader of this franchise.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't entirely Rudy's choice to leave.

Right now, I would take my chances with Rudy T. and Eddie Griffin, before JVG and all of his groupies from NYC.

Rudy's not coming back to coach Houston any time soon if ever. I wish he would coach somewhere though. Wherever he went would immediately become my second favorite team

He dislikes anything that makes sense and shows promise.

Rudy would be perfect, Steve could go back to doing what he wants despite a little matter of the ZONE being affective.
Steve is a player who can only do one thing, an Allen Iverson immitation, only he likes to have his own rendition of it, so he adds rebounds and takes less jumpshots. And like Allen Iverson, guy just can't adapt to anything that doesn't allow him to be consistently stupid freely.
And like Allen Iverson, he has shown, that one, he cannot be taught AT ALL, he's the way he is and will remain that way, when he tries to LEARN something, he never does and just ends up being a worse player. Two, he cannot stop doing the mistakes he has been doing since his rookie season, no matter the effort, he just cannot cease to do so. It's not within him, to grow. Definitely incapable of obtaining new knowledges, such as the art of "defense".. and being able to dribble the ball without it fumbling about.

And uh, Cat would not've matured as much as he has, and developed the skill of D, if he had continued to been allowed to act like Francis' best court bud under Rudy's reign.

Under Rudy, it would've remained the STeve, Cat and moochie show. Whoever, approved of that, and disapproves of our new and better change, gah I dislike name calling, but, the irritability induced by such irrationality, I just cannot resist..
    is a blind unreasonable moron.

I would love to have Rudy back after one more season of JVG.

Once JVG brings in a few more system players, hammers the system into the players heads, and instills them with discipline and defense, then Rudy can come here and take us to the top.

I really don't think JVG can take us to the top of the league, but I think what he is doing is absolutely necessary in the process of getting there.

    Sad. :(

I was in hope of a team other than the Rocks getting weaker this coming year. Here goes the dream....

Isn't this what Doc Rocket hinted at in his thread? If JVG doesn't produce results by next year, he will be gone -- and Rudy wants to watch his health for at least one more year....and he loves being part of the Rockets organization. Hmmmmmm.

Well that's too easy. Cuz we all know that Rudy is incapable of adapting...

Hm. Where'd my thread about Rudy go?

Your post is straight wrong. You say that Steve cannot be taught or be changed, but when has SF been asked to do so before JVG came in? And if you say that SF hasn't changed his game, or atleast have tried his hardest to do so, then you are not watching the right game.

How can you say Rudy would have kept the team guard oriented? Yao came in 2 weeks before the season started, they barely had time to work together, and you expect Rudy to throw it down to Yao everytime his rookie season? Rudy did what he thought was best to win ball games, and if it is between a 2 time allstar guard and a international rookie who hadn't shown anything yet, you go with the experience.

Rudy made the Dream the player he is, not saying Yao is anywhere near the Dream, but Rudy knows the importance of a dominant bigman. And before we got Yao, we didn't even have a decent bigman to work with.

"Dislikes anything that makes sense and promise?"- I don't know about you, but scoring 85ppg isn't promise and doesn't make sense in the West.

Yes, we made the playoffs, big deal. If Karl would have stayed in Utah, we would have been lottery bound. I'm not looking for 2 game improvements (I know it takes time), but if JVG doesn't adjust and start putting points on the board, we won't survive in the West, period.
