With the deal that would have sent Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to New Jersey stalled at least through Monday, the Rockets continued to try to entice the Nuggets to send Anthony to Houston, but continued to make little headway, a person with knowledge of talks between the teams said. The deal with the Nets was close to complete Sunday evening, but the Rockets hoped that conversations now could put them in the picture next month if the Nuggets opt to wait until closer to the deadline to move Anthony. The Rockets can offer more cost-savings, but Nets rookie Derrick Favors has been the key to that deal. The Rockets on Monday were not involved as a fourth team to absorb contracts used to make the trade work. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7375261.html
very strange. It was understood that Morey was helping NJ with that pick. Now it gives NJ leverage over Houston. Strange days indeed.
@ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix As Nets and Pistons wait, Houston is quietly trying to get back into the Anthony chase. Sources say Rockets have talked to Denver recently. @ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix One source warned nothing was close with Houston. But Rockets GM Daryl Morey has made no secret of his desire to acquire stars via trade. @ChrisMannixSI Chris Mannix Rockets have long thought that the longer talks with Nets/Knicks dragged on, they might have a shot at getting back in.
A bunch of weird smoke n mirrors. Things get hazy. You scratch your head. What the hell is going? Morey, you're making a fool of yourself. This is a joke. Hazier... things are blurry. The next thing you know you wake up and Morey is inside of you - Anthony & Favors are both Rockets, we own the Nuggets non-sequential unprotected lotto picks for the next decade. That's how he likes it, unprotected. Just wait.
Remember when Mannix mentioned that the Rockets were out the Melo sweepstakes "for now"... this was why...to sneak right back in.
The Terrence Williams trade not only gave up the 2012 pick, it prevented them from dealing their 2011 pick. Exactly how are they enticing New Jersey to take their offering over Favors/Harris/2 first rounders? "making little headway"... lol.
If we trade Yao for salary, we will most likely get a first rounder back for the trouble. That first rounder added would make our 2011 first round swap pick and the Knicks 2012 pick both tradeable.
Can someone seriously tell me what's the difference between hill and favors besides hill being more polished and favor having slightly more upside? Come on, i thought that would even things out and make them about equal in value.
Clutch, do you think Morey would trade one of his "core" players like Martin or Scola for Melo and would Denver be interested if they wish to stay relevant while they rebuild? If Denver gives them a go, maybe a separate deal could be in the works for another 1st rd pick?
I think what Houston is holding its hat on is that they are willing to take a lot more extra salary off of Denver's hands that the other trade wouldn't. The longer this situation drags out, they might hope Denver gets nervous and calls agreeing to make the trade with them. Daryl is hoping that they continue to struggle and want to blow it up. Denver then would be glad having the Rockets take Andersen, Harrington and getting expirings a long with some young "talent" in combination of Patterson, Hill, Budinger, Lee, Brooks, whoever. Still doubtful but what happens when Denver starts to believe Favors isn't going to be great but just average? And the draft picks would be a crap shoot if they are conditional or Melo helps the Nets get to playoff range.
Doesn't make sense. Morey knew exactly why the Nets were willing to move TWill for a #1, and he knew the consequences of sending a #1 to NJ. That is why I am calling a bluff.. I don't think Morey thinks the Rockets are getting Melo, and has been told as much by Denver. Morey is using the media to keep the Rockets in the news and to keep the fans believing that they are active. I do believe that Morey wants to make a deal, and he is very shrewed but I don't think it is for Melo.
Morey goes after Melo, Bosh, Iguodala, everyone. Next moment you hear he is going after LeBron and Michael Jordan. Later in the news there are news Morey is going after Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant. Morey is probably gonna go after me in the next minute.....
Has anyone caught any Net games or watch Favors play? Is it preposterous to envision Patterson becoming a stud and Favors a bust?
