"The Rockets have refused to go that route. Daryl Morey is still working the phones, but since the free agent exchange of Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza, the biggest name he has added is Pops Mensah-Bonsu The Rockets off-season workouts have moved toward five-on-five games. They are pretty intense, too, which is to be expected with a half-dozen guys with non-guaranteed contracts in the gym with the GM, three vice presidents, four assistant coaches and two Adelmans looking on. Luis Scola, Shane Battier and David Andersen have joined the regulars. (Tracy McGrady is still in Chicago, getting a last few days of work in with Tim Grover and posing for pictures.) Trevor Ariza is playing, along with the usual suspects (Chuck Hayes, Chase Budinger, Jermaine Taylor Garrett Temple and Will Conroy). James White got in one final Toyota Center run before he was traded to Denver. Aaron Brooks joined the workout late after his medical testing. And there was one new face, Salim Stoudamire, who would love to bring his jumper to training camp. Taylor looks better than he did in Las Vegas. He was less of a ball stopper, finished well and was more discerning with his jumpers. Other than that, Scola, Budinger and Conroy (who really looks like he belongs) made the shots you would expect. Andersen knocked down a few and had a few sharp passes. Dorsey blocked a few shots and generally looked good. Mostly, it was good to see real basketball again" http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/09/summers_gone_and_the_time_is_r.html
On the other hand, you can look at Steve Nash, who has a bad back, but is still elite and plays at least 74 games a year after year. I doubt he does that with a bad trainer.
Honestly I am quite disappointed about Morey this season, especially he did nothing while AI was at such low price. You know, Morey could stand with Brian Cook's 3.5million dollars, but he can't accept AI. Morey did nothing but put in his all to find another Luis Scoa in these scrub players. I don't know the chance you get another diamond, but I have to say, rox is so sux this season.
Well I don't want to be blatantly rude or anything but your logic regarding the potential signing of AI was pretty outrageous...We're already over the Luxury Tax...and so even if signing AI for the supposedly "bargain" price of 3-5 million went down...we'd be paying double that amount in Lux Tax penalties...and Morey was never prepared to do that for someone who isn't exactly going to guarantee a championship. Lets face it, AI might have brought in 5 or 10 more wins...but we still weren't going anywhere but down the lottery odds if we had AI. And no we ain't ever gonna find another Luis Scola in these bunch of scrubs.....we don't even have a roster spot for them.
Speaking of Luxury Tax, I can't help asking where is our money? Morey is a smart guy, if Luxury Tax is the barricade of AI coming, rockets could buy out Brian Cook. AI's value on tickets undoubtly worth that move!!!
your logic has been based on flawed Salary Cap knowlege.....even if we buyout Brian Cook(he obviously won't accept anything less than 3.5 million full payout---and Les is never going to pay someone 3.5 million to go away).the total buyout salary counts 2wards our lux tax calculations......so buyouts will only be to save roster spots etc etc...(or 2 get rid of cancers lyk Marbury nd Tinsley).... But apparently we did make a 30 million USD profit last year...and most of the teams these days are LOSING that much money...so I don't see why Les was so unprepared to sign better and more significant FA's such as Ramon Sessions...and even he came with a bargain price... However, with all that said.......we're not going to make the playoffs next season...so no reason to spend any cash this year... but if we don't tank it.....then its a waste of a waste season........
