I thought that was pretty interesting. I could definitely see how it would help. I remember how quick, elusive and decisive you had to be when I played it, so it seems like it would work in regard to basketball.

It sounds like it's mostly work for the defenders in this case since they're in defensive stances. It's less about the offensive players being elusive and more about the defensive players having to work extra hard to tag somebody.

It reads like a mix between rugby and track training.

What is the correlation between what Eto has implemented and what the Suns' training staff do, which has been credited with Nash, Shaq, and Hill all out physically performing expectations?

    Typical Morey move.

He always has to show off the fact that he is a genius.

The Rockets organization is showing why they are a top tier organization is sports period, not in championships but I think it is only a matter of time the way they do everything. I mean look at the Astro's in comparison and I think the way they do things is the norm for most sports teams which is why there is so many perennial losers in sports. The Rockets make me feel smart for just being a fan.

Me, too. Knowing Morey, he keeps a stat for 'finishing after the foul' and saw a need for improvement in that area for the Rockets. I recall many times last season when we did not finish after the foul.

Our front office will make the difference on 5+ wins this year. I love having the training, the advance scouting, and having such cerebral talents on the court (battier) and off (Morey, Adelman).

The Rockets will make the playoffs this year.

That's really overblown...they're good at what they do, but nash benefits from his soccre training, and the guy is the ultimate pro when it comes to staying in shape. Shaq gave up in Miami, his play in Phoenix was about motivation.....Hill is truly the only guy they worked wonders with...and Amare's incident is always left out, they actually let him come back too early after his knee surgery and he had to go back out, sounds familiar, huh..

this article was more about hyping a perceived weakness in the organization rather than anything material.

a lot of rockets fans think that the team has poor strength and conditioning programs just due to the the high-visibility injuries the team has suffered through. it never was the case, and nothing about playing tag will fix fluke injuries or injuries that occur due to neglect or poor dedication to your body.

but at least now everyone will think that the rockets are ahead of the curve, and that's a good thing, i guess.

yeah i kind of agree...i thought there would be a big change in their fitness training as a whole...maybe there is, but this article doesn't discuss anything like that. I like the part about fixing their running mechanics...but the tag thing isn't that big and neither is smacking them with pads on layups...being able to finish in traffic is more about body control (core), strength, and/or pure ability to finish with the ball. A pad doesnt have arms to reach out, doesn't jump, doesn't react, so im not sure that's going to be very effective at this stage of basketball, maybe in high school.

yeah the smacking guys with pads has been around a long, long time. I did that in high school.

also tag...we did that in off-season in hs basketball.

maybe running mechanics will help (?). but pretty sure that in BB guys will just run the way they run.

Maybe not. But overall I feel another stroker article by Feigan

yeah, exactly. for a great example of this, watch Aaron Brooks run and jump. its very counter-intuitive why he is so fast and can jump so high. he has internally rotated toes and looks like he runs on the sides of his feet. if the rockets try to correct that, i bet it results in a lower body (hip/knee/ankle) joint injury for aaron. you just can't "tweak" 25 years of running and jumping a certain way without opening up injury risk just due to the correction.

i think the better bet is to understand the unique types of wear and tear each player will endure due to their body types and athletic requirements and ensure their bodies are strengthened to prevent failure in the predictable areas. the rest, unfortunately, is just nature.
