Tracy McGrady will spend some of this week visiting out-of-town doctors in order to get more opinions on his left knee. He did not practice with the team on Monday evening, will not play Tuesday against New Jersey and is listed by the Rockets as day-to-day.

"I didn’t expect to see him," said head coach Rick Adelman. "He’s gonna get second opinions and we just have to deal with who we have right now and get ready for this game (Tuesday) and see if we can build something."

McGrady, who has played in 35 of the Rockets’ 53 games this season, has not been on the court since shooting 1-for-9 and hitting the underside of the rim while attempting a dunk at Milwaukee on Feb. 8. The day after the failed dunk, McGrady said there was no pain, but that he didn’t have confidence in the knee. Two days later, he said there was pain and did not play against Sacramento in the final game before the All-Star break.

"Like I said before, it’s been hard for him to be consistent on defense, because his knee is not right," Ron Artest said. "It’s only right for a couple of days. His health is most important for him, organization when you look at the long term and, of course, for his family. He’s shown courage trying to fight through it and whatever the diagnosis is, I’m not a doctor, I just hope he gets better."

"I think we all don’t know how much pain he deals with right now," said Yao Ming. "It’s really hard to say. I think he just needs to do what he needs to do. He’s looking for a doctor he trusts and hopefully he can get back healthy."

I posted this in another thread....

To me it sure sounds like they aren't really missing him all that much.

"I didn’t expect to see him,"

But you will see him soon on the court.

Why is he going to see so many out of town doctors? Isn't Houston like the medical hub of the US?

Searching for the witch doctor or shaman that has the magic pill for his knee.

Call me kooky but maybe he should actually try the prescribed rehab treatment instead?

Well can they find a cure to help T-Mac with his mentality? Or find out what the REAL problem is.

Maybe he should try traditional Chinese medicine. It worked for Yao.

Well, when he signs his CBA contract at the end of next year, maybe he can.

He should just go visit Arizona's Doctor. Do you guys remember earlier this season when he went there? He probably had his best game against the Suns this season.

They probably do have the best medical staff in the NBA. Shaq has never been hurt ever since coming to Phoenix, Amare is looking like he never got injured ever since he returned from his knee injury

    Go to Phoenix not NJ.

he did. and he has played on that knee for over 35 NBA games now. it still is very weak.

maybe he does need a witch doctor like he needed for his back, something REAL doctors couldn't cure.

Maybe TMac is out scouting a new home in the area that he maybe traded to. I can't wait till the 19th when this drama ends.

he also had an injection before that game too. so it wasn't really the doctor. the drugs made his knee feel better, FOR A NIGHT.

    it's all about mental.

he is in the tailspin mode. the more pain he think about, the more problem he has.

obviously it has to be mental b/c when your knee hasn't improved one single bit and all doctors are saying it will get better if you keep playing on it, you gotta think your knee must be crazy.

i think he's going to end up having surgery and being out for awhile, because he seems to be hell bent on it. either that or his pride was really hurt by that missed dunk, and he's trying to insinuate that his terrible play is because of a serious knee injury that none of the doctors so far seem to think is there.

i mean, if 4 reputable sports medicine doctors have already given him opinions, and he still isnt satisfied, maybe he's just looking for a doctor that gives him the answer he wants.
