Article on Chuck Hayes prospects for the upcoming season now that he is back to his natural position. Here is little line that I liked: Here's to their "overachieving mentality" taking them all the way to the trophy! Enjoy, Chuck Article Link
Chuck Hayes kind of reminds me of Chucky Brown from the championship days. Plays hard and over achieves.
I'm glad to have Hayes on the team. Not only is he a good person on the court, he's a great guy off the court. I think it's important for him to play the PF spot when Scola is getting burnt on the other side of the ball. We have seen Scola get killed by players like LaMarcus Aldridge. I can recall in the 09 playoffs and during the regular season where Hayes came in and put Aldridge in check. I think if we can keep Hayes coming off the bench as a PF, Houston's defense and the overall team success will grow.
It's a bittersweet catch-22 to me Obviously, we'll get the most out of him playing his natural position at the 4, but less minutes will accompany that And again, Obviously, getting back the size needed at the 5 is fantastic, but I'll still miss everything/all of the unorthodox intangibles Chuckie brought to the center position with every play (missed lay-ups excluded) ...Just adds on to the list of unsniffed tricks up our sleeve (especially next time Pierce gets the ball with 12 seconds left in the game )
if we are serious about improving our defense this year, it starts with getting Chuck some minutes at the 4 spot. he's going to have to play 15-20 minutes at the 4, and possibly 10 at the 5. I don't see how our rook from KU gets on the court this year, baring injury.
Barring any trade, I think PatP will play sometime this year. As you know injuries are the nature of the game so he could see some minutes. We saw how Carl Landry got minutes his rookie year because we were blowing out Minny. PatP must keep improving and learning from players like Scola and Hayes.
What? How does that make sense? I mean if he was a top 5 pick I could understand, but PatPat was barely a lotto pick? Was getting Landry a failure? I mean he barely played his 1st season as well? We all know that he was a leading candidate for 6th man of the Year before his trade to the Kings.
landry played quite a bit the second half of his rookie season it was brooks who hardly played at all his rookie year and he turned out all right
what are you talking about? Carl started to get significant minutes at the beginning of the year in January his rookie season, well before Yao went down with his injury in feb. His minutes still stayed around the same even after he went down as Deke took up the majority of Yao's minutes.
Great observation, except that it's not even remotely true. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/landrca01/gamelog/2008/ http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mingya01/gamelog/2008/ Maybe you read more and post less.
[rquoter]"I'm just being aggressive, trying to be a playmaker, make the defense respect me," Hayes said. "I try to be a threat on the offensive end. The whole league knows I can play defense pretty well, but if I'm aggressive (offensively), it takes the pressure off Yao, Luis (Scola) or somebody else. Instead of somebody always creating for me, I can create for somebody else.[/rquoter] Chuck with some offense is something I would like to see.
I like the fact that Adelman acknowledges Hayes's passing ability. Now the team is set to have hime and Miller, both guys who can see the floor well and initiate the offensive attack from the high post. For Chuck, even though he can't hit a jumpshot, he can produce efficiently with his passing ability, which helps blance things out.
Did we pick up a player from Kansas that I didn't hear about? Surely you don't mean Patrick Patterson... he went to UK... University of Kentucky - Wildcats. Don't insult the school by calling it KU - the land where lame blue birds live.
^^^^ The fun part of this is that for Patterson to get minutes, he is going to have to earn them at the Chuckwagon's expense!!! (and Hill) I like what I have seen and read/heard about Patterson so far, but he has a pretty tall bar for a rook to get minutes. It will be interesting to watch it play out between the two KU guys.
I can't wait to see Chuck back at his natural 4 spot being the defensive stopper. I think he can lock down pretty much any 4 in the league and that is gonna improve our defense significantly.
