Glad that the only Houston paper can report on Michael Jordan in TWO SEPARATE STORIES and manage to not cover their home team's game for Sunday's paper. Very nice!

    Jeff,

I thought the Chronicle wasn't finalized until midnight or so. Hopefully by then we will see a couple of stories about the Rockets by then. If not I'm with you and quite pissed. I understand them wanting to talk as much about Jordan as possible, but he in NO WAY deserves more attention than the Rocks. For every Jordan article they write, they should have at LEAST two about the Rockets.

Now that I think about it, the Wizards played quite a bit earlier than the Rockets, so the Jordan stories are being posted first and the Rockets ones SHOULD follow soon. Otherwise I'm going to send a nasty email to the chronicle. The game tonight was a great one to write about. Two rookies emerged, Kenny T showed up big time, we won, and it was just an entertaining game all around. (Minus the crap that was called the second quarter)

I take it back. They have...

FOUR

stories on Jordan and the Wizards and...

NONE

    on the Rockets. Beautiful.

Okay, it's midnight and still not a single Rockets story. Well, since I'm in such a verbal mood tonight, I am working on a letter to the chronicle. Their email address is hci@chron.com. Once again I think a bunch of us should write in and let them know we do have a team, and no, Michael Jordan is not on it. How can they not even have a short article after such a great game? I mean I can't seem to shut up about it myself, so you'd think they could at least put SOMETHING together.

    Jeff,

If you'd come up with a complaint email letter, I'm sure many people would send it. I know I would.

It's pretty sad that the city's own newspaper would devote more energy and time to Jordan and a team that will be lucky to win 30 games then a team that will probably make the playoffs and push for wins in the high 40s.

    Ahh...the media! Aren't they grand!

I have a feeling it is only gonna get worse with the coverage of Jordan.

Here is a complaint letter I just sent. Modify it to your pleasure.

Maybe I am a little too harsh, but oh well.

    To whom it may concern:

I am writing to let you know that I am very upset with your lack of Rockets coverage Saturday night. As a reader of the Chronicle for the past 18 years I am quite appalled by this situation. You seemed to have enough time to print three articles about Jordan, yet not a single word about the Rockets. This MIGHT be understandable had either the Rockets played a late game, or not at all, but they played at 7:30 pm. They played a great game, and I would have been quite interested in reading about the great performances Kenny Thomas, Oscar Torres and Terrance Morris had. But unfortunately I don't see a single Rockets article in the Basketball section. Since when did the Houston Chronicle decide to just drop the Rockets in favor of one player, even if it is Jordan? Would someone care to tell me why the Rockets vs. Pistons game was not covered in Sunday's paper?

Thank you for any reasons you can possibly give me for this, and at the very least I'd like to see multiple articles on Monday about the game and an apology or explanation printed to let us know when the Rockets weren't important enough to cover.

    Sincerely,

    [Name withheld]

Well, I hope they get flooded with all sorts of e-mails and letters about this.

Considering all of the other things that have happened since 9/11, this shouldn't be that big of a deal, but then as Jeff pointed out, they wrote multiple Jordan articles. If they have the time to write about Jordan, they damn well better have the time to write about the hometown team.

Here I've got an email letter for them that is short and simple.

    Houston Chronicle,

We want Rockets, not the same old Bull.

Thanks RocketsPimp, though I hope to not over do it too much and get burned out. I try to make each post count, though lately I've been posting all over the place. Well it looks like our letters may have had some effect, or they were just late with the stories.

    SuperKev,

I wrote a short apology to the Chronicle for acting rashly on this issue. Normally for a 7:30 game the articles are posted by 11:30 pm, midnight at the lastest. After having so much frustration about not finding good info about the game I thought the letter was a good idea. Plus Jeff got me quite worked up on this issue. :) But hey, we are die hard fans and have high expectations from our information sources, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, and I still stand by my Jordan comment. :)

This Jordan coverage is nauseating. The league is also doing whatever it can to showacase him. I wouldn't be surprised if they told Miami to let him score. :p

You know I went on a tirade about a week or two ago about how ESPN had stopped covering their basketball previews and did non-stop coverage of Jordan. I never DREAMT that it would spread around all over the freaking country! You know it didn't really bother me that Jordan came back, I was like "So what let him have his fun", now it's starting to tick me off!

Even though the Chronicle added the Rockets stories, it doesn't change the fact that they do a pathetic job covering the team.

In Dallas, the Mavs average about two stories a day in the Dallas Morning News and 1-2 in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. There have been many days since training camp opened that the Rockets have failed to appear in the Chronicle at all. It's beyond frustrating.

No disrespect intended, but this is why I think Michael Jordan does more harm to the game of basketball than good. As a separate issue than the game itself-I realize that Jordan is a very important marketing tool, and is very good for NBC ratings-sic-people forget this is a team sport with 5 men on the floor.I realize this is the entertainment business, but the man is only flesh and blood.

Does anyone really want to see Ahmad Raashad play the piano with Mr. Jordan??

Jordan IS doing more harm to the game.

Right now, you got young stars like Stevie or Paul Pierce just coming into their own and you got great young-star rivalries forming in the east like Vince vs. Tracy vs. Ivy, etc.

Vince and Ivy had a great 7 game series with Ivy coming out on top by 1 point. This could be the next Wilt/Russell or Bird/Johnson rivalry in the league but you wouldn't know it because everyone's talking about Jordan vs. the Young Guns and such.

It's time for him to move on.

Guys I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see how anyone could be upset at MJ for coming back. If he wants to play, then he should play. I know it may be annoying to see him all over the place, but we might as well get used to it.
I do understand the argument that hes taking some media coverage that would go to young stars like Paul Pierce and Francis, but the real basketball fans will know about those guys anyway.
Personally I'm thrilled that Mike is coming back. With the Rockets aiming at the playoffs, everyone aiming at the Lakers, and MJ on NBC every week, this should be a helluva season.
