Oswalt's mother, Jean, was unharmed after seeking shelter in a closet. His father, Billy, was not at home at the time the tornado struck.

The tornado was blamed for 10 deaths in Mississippi, including five in Choctaw County, where Weir is located.

Oswalt spent the weekend assisting his parents recovering what they could from the home, which was completely destroyed.

Oswalt and his wife, Nicole, made the eight-hour drive to his hometown over the weekend. The pitcher plans to fly back Tuesday, Astros general manager Ed Wade said.

Oswalt remains scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Cincinnati Reds at Minute Maid Park.

"Nothing has changed in that regard," Wade said.
