Ok, I am a little slow noticing this, but the Chronicle has a new (relatively) blog on the local music scene. It includes a blurb from a certain bass player about a magical night at Fitzgeralds. See http://blogs.chron.com/handstamp/ Kudos to the Chronicle (and I don't say that too often).
LOL! You saw that, eh. Sara Cress has been really good about getting their Local Music section in order - a far cry from when their previous music editor actually took pot shots at me IN PRINT after I criticized their lack of a local music section a few years back. I criticized them because best story ever run on a local artist had run that previous Sunday in the Business section, not in music. I wrote that it was unfortunate that for an artist to get print in the Chron, they had to be featured as entrepreneurs rather than artists. I even stated that a band I was in back in the 90's upon repeated requests, professional press kits and CD's mailed to them, couldn't even get a response or calendar listing for our record release party despite getting features in every other local rag, music or otherwise. The former editor shot back at me that they didn't have the space to run stories on "every local garage band" playing every "dive" in Houston. She absolutely tore me a new one. It was really pretty bad and I even emailed her and her editor to tell her I thought it was a cheap shot. Well, she's no longer there and Cress has taken over the local music stuff online. She's very active in the local music scene and I commend her for her efforts. The blog post in question came in response to an email she sent out to a bunch of us asking for our most memorable or notable experiences on stage. I sent that story and she responded with "Best. Story. Ever."
