Didn't see this posted lock if needed.

BOSTON — The treatment and condition of Tracy McGrady's sore left knee has not changed, but the mystery about why it has been so stubbornly troublesome ended Wednesday.

The Rockets star was found to have a strained popliteal tendon, an injury that explains the delay in his returning to the court and the three-week timetable he had been told to expect before he could play again.

McGrady, the Rockets' top scorer and assists leader, is expected to be out for another seven to 10 days, an absence that could cost him six more games. On Wednesday, he missed his fourth consecutive game, a 97-93 loss to the Celtics.

"It's one of the tendons on the outside of the knee; you can almost say it's part of the hamstring," Rockets trainer Keith Jones said. "When we did the first MRI, we were looking for the bone bruise.

"With the MRI they did (Wednesday), you get more imaging, better resolution, and you could see the strain area in the tendon where it inserts in there, and that's exactly where the pain is coming from.

"Normally, it's three weeks for that kind of strain."

McGrady underwent a 3-T Magnet MRI and ultrasound tests Wednesday before flying to Orlando, Fla.

Though he felt soreness for several weeks, McGrady aggravated the injury Dec. 15 against Dallas, then left at halftime of the Rockets' next game Dec. 19 against Orlando. He missed the next game before playing in Chicago. But he aggravated the injury again in the first half of the Rockets' game Dec. 23 at Detroit and has been out since.

"At first we thought it wouldn't be that long, but it's dragged on," coach Rick Adelman said. "It hasn't gotten worse, but it's sore. I can't tell you when he's going to play."

if we play the same way we are now with t-mac, we might actually reach the potential we thought we could have before the season started.

    Maybe if T-Mac says;
hey... players are finally stepping up across the board. Gee whiz, maybe I should give 110% on the defensive end and pick and choose high percentage shots on offense.

Hamstring injury doesn't sound good. Those things tend to come and go for the rest of the season.

Is it in any way possible that Keith Jones is not that good? I don't know, juts asking.

Also, why is a trainer the one making all the medical statements for the Rockets, why not an official team doctor? I watch soccer a lot, and the statements the team doctors give appear to be a LOT more accurate than what Keith Jones predicts.

Well, with 50 games left we need him back ASAP. The moment he's ready to go again we need him back in there. Every game counts at this point. Not that each game doesn't count normally but we're at a point where we need to win at least 30 of those games and it's very unlikely to happen without him.

I think the trainer making the statements is typical unless its a big injury like broken bones or when surgery is necessary. Keith Jones is recognized as one of the top in the league. He's Team USA's trainer as well.. if I recall correctly.

Maybe, but he's obviously going to be with the team since they are playing there tomorrow. (you never know with Tracy though)

This is good news, although it's not totally clear, I really hope T-Mac will be 100% when he returns, I can't wait to see him back on the floor.

This is what McGrady is doing today. This was scheduled long before he knew he would be out of action and it was planned in conjunction with his trip to Orlando with the team:

Oh wait, he's a quitter according to so many on this board. So much so, he went out and aggrevated his injury twice trying to play for this team and it's ****ty fans...sorry, I think I might be getting a ban soon b/c reading all the BS around here lately makes me really upset at times.

When a player openly admits to mailing a season in and using injuries as a cover, you lose all benefit of the doubt for the rest of your career, right or wrong. Don't forget he also tried to take a vacation just this past April under the guise of injuries, only to be called out publicly by JVG.

Additionally, whether it's a lack of determination, commitment, or simple fragility.....if your franchise guy can't suit up and play for you, what good is he? This is his 11th season, and not once has McGrady played 80 games. Not once.

When he plays and is at 100%, he's a marvel. But he is a player that coasts, is injury prone, has been quick to shut things down, has a wretched record in terms of showing up for big games, and provides absolutely no leadership on the team.

I'm ready to close out this era. Unless we bring in an on-court leader (Jason Kidd) that keeps him and the rest of the squad honest and accountable, I see no need in staying on this road. Move McGrady for assests (young players, picks) that will be used to build around a Yao-Scola frontcourt.

I can't defend those actions. And yes, you deserve the rep you've earned. But every situation is different. We are talking about this year, this season. Although most of us can only speak from what we read in the news, all things say he hasn't quit this year. He came out playing great. He got hurt on the elbow, dead arm, whatever. Came back, played, hurt his knee. Tried to play a couple more times, just to make it worse. I don't see quit in that. He got hurt making plays. elbow, he was making a play, and Luke hit it. Knee, I don't remember exactly, but he was in the paint either going after the ball or driving to the hole.

I hear ya, but do you think if he was able to play 82+ a season he would decide not to? Heck, I don't know...hahah! I'd like to think that if he were physically able, he'd suit up.

I sometimes doubt his commitment at times. His determination is there, but he looses focus or as you said, coasts at times. His walking up the court this season has gotten on some people. I've caught Yao doing the same, others as well. But I think overall, THIS season Tracy has given the effort. Well, at least so far. Enough that he at least tried to play through injuries.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm not QUITE there yet. I'm like DD and some others around here, hoping that Tracy will buy into the system that is looking better right now. As you all know, it seems he tries, and when things go bad, you go back to what's worked (in some capacity) in the past. If he can just basically say, "I'll do it your way Rick, if it fails, at least I tried" then he can lay the blame somewhere else if the team fails. Then again, he won't be a leader if he does that. So he's damned no matter what he does. That's what comes with being a "superstar."

A team lead by a Yao-Scola frontcourt scares me right now. I don't have the confidence in them yet. Also, if McGrady is so crappy, who else would want him? He's still got, what, two years on his contract? Two BIG years. I don't think anyone is touching that.

    Great points.

I agree with all of that, but there's still this little ounce of hope that he'll get healthy, rededicate himself to the remainder of this season and the rest of his time here.

I know that's probably not possible and we all know this team's held hostage by his contract, knick knack injuries, and whatever motivation he has for the games he plays. But given all that, those spectacular plays and the determination he plays with down the strecth of a season (if he wants to) that we've seen in 2 of 3 years ALMOST....ALMOST....ALMOST makes it worth it to put up with it.

That's why this season is my final straw with him as a fan.

    valid points emjohn.

It is almost a catch 22 with him. He to drive to the basket to be effective in the long-term but he can't stay healthy in the long-term driving to the basket, and he realizes it more now. Coupled with his low pain tolerance and you get more jump shots.

When he gets back IMO he should do more moving and passing away from the basket instead of settling for the jump shot. He should also take more shots within the 10 ft area instead of the 15+ he does all the time.

Hopefully this will help keep him on the court for the rest of the two years he has left on his contract.
