[rquoter]"I really wasn't concerned," Martin said. "It was just a point I was trying to make that you can't point fingers and start going your separate ways. You hear about this locker room, great guys and great leaders. Shane is going to keep us together. We're all sticking together."[/rquoter]

Is Shane Battier the glue that will help the Rockets stick together through the tough times? Don't know what he's saying off the court, but since the second half of the San Antonio game he's really stepped up his activity level. I thought in the preseason he showed a little more liveliness, athletically, then we're used to. I think he must have attempted at least 2 or 3 tip dunks already. He hasn't actually completed any of them, but if he's got the legs to go for that than maybe we can expect a little more than what he showed through the first 4 games.

I think Shane has been playing better as of lately.

When Shane goes up for a dunk in anger like he did recently you can tell he is trying to light a fire under everyones ass.

I don't think there is a single person that questioned Shane's value off the court. The guy is a true leader, the exact type of veteran you want in your locker room.

Unfortunately, his play on the court looked pretty terrible for a while.

I've seen very good things over the past two games from him, though.

Isn't it just dandy that he starts keeping the team together once Manu injurs AB. Conspiracy.

No, just Battier. Maybe Scola, too, since his pal Manu is involved. But most likely just Battier.

Speak for yourself; there's a growing crowd that like to criticize anything 'intangible'.

Those are just the knee jerkers. By the time the next win rolls around they flop 180ยบ.

I think if there was a way to separate the severe knee jerkers from the rest of us (keeping in mind it is a continuum and not two discreet groups), you'd find much more uniform support of veteran leadership like Shane.

Yeah, you noticed that too, right? Very interesting statement, even when he tried to turn it into a half-compliment halfway through the sentence, lol.

Hopefully, the coaching staff is paying attention and will get AB to modify his focus and play him differently.

Of course he holds a strong locker room presence. That's not to say his play on the court moves mountains though. He has played better last two games after he got alot of flack for being horrid. I think the move to give Hill more minutes and playing the Twolves had way more to do with anything and the obvious.

Smith has given Battier a lot of confidence. When AB was in lineup, Battier was the worst shooter, and thus he was shy to shoot the ball. Now, you know, Smith was worse shooter than Battier. So, Battier wouldn't feel embarrassing to shoot the ball, and resulted in a much better offense.
