thats great to hear, now if he can do what he did in the euro league and provide us with 15/7 ill be pretty damn happy with our 4 position. now the real question if that was answered would be our 1 position.. to start MJ and keep him happy or to have SF start and have MJ complain... hmm...

Now that he's officially ours, let me be the first a*****e to officially predict that Scola will be this year's Vassilis Spanoulis.

Can't be true. Scola already has had a history of playing outside of his home country without crying.

Glad to see this is completed.

    Is it October yet?

Nah. He won't be a 15/7 guy for us but he really has game. V-Span just isn't an NBA level player. Scola is better than Oberto. Plus, he won't cry because he misses his momma.

Scola's attitude is far better. He's meek and wants to let the game come to him. I'm not saying he's going to give us 15/7, but I think his chances are far better than V-Mac.

I can't believe this. Will, you are always Mr. Sense & Sensibility. Would you rather have Chuck Hayes as the starter over the highest rated player in Europe?

he wont be 15/7 because the highest scoring euro team scores 84 pts and 60% of the shots go in.

he'll have fun in the nba where the highest scoring team scores 120pts and 30% of the shots go in.

welcome to the nba clankfest, scola! as soon as you step on the court, remember to keep your hands up to protect your face from all the flying bricks

Well, Oberto averaged about 2 points and 2 boards a game his first season in the NBA and didn't get steady PT. If this is the best Scola can do, he was a failed acquisition, because we need far more from him than the Spurs need from Oberto.

    Regarding Scola...

I have been scratching my head some, trying to figure out what might be considered *reasonable expectations* where Scola is concerned.

It ought to be interesting, if nothing else.

I mean, the guy is what, 6'8"? Ok, so he's the guy who is our answer to the Duncans, the Dirks, the Brands, the Amares, and whoever else I am forgetting.. ok, maybe so. Maybe Adelman's offense will really help the guy shine.

But taking into account the fact that the guy is an undersized Euro power forward (Argentine, I know, but still), who has a pretty big adjustment to make coming into the NBA, I would imagine that the guy better have some pretty thick skin for the first few months of the season.

Because these people who are so ecstatic over his joining our team are going to be some of the first ones to start screaming that he is a bust, VMac Part Deux, etc etc, if he doesn't come in here and light the world on fire right away.

Just like a lot of his fellow countrymen who have turned into pretty-good-to-great players in the NBA, it will take some time.

So the question is, what, in all sobriety and seriousness, should be the REASONABLE expectations of the guy and his performance?

Now don't get me wrong - I want him to come in and succeed and be a great help as much as the next guy. I am just trying to refrain from getting too excited, expecting too much too soon.

If he is not a raging success, how long will Morey retain his current luster? How thick is his skin?

Scola's easily 6'9", and could measure out at 6'10" with shoes. He's bigger than you think and not undersized at all for the position. What is more likely to be a problem is the adjustment period all Euro (or transplanted South Americans) go through when they come to the NBA. Personally, I think we'll be surprised by the guy, in a good way, but I'm in full "optimistic Summer mode," so take that with a large grain of salt.
