http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/lopez/4904423.html Vassilis Spanoulis to Dallas for a second round pick John Lucas III to the Clippers for James Singleton Luther Head to the Lakers for Brian Cook SPLASH
Those deals are.........underwhelming to say the least. The Luther Head for Brian Cook is bad for us because the only thing he can do is shoot.
Very true, but do we want Chuck Hayes and Brian Cook as our PF solutions? I'm just saying that there has to be something better than Brian Cook.
1. I would hate to settle for Cook. If our final roster allows significant minutes for Cook then we have failed. Id rather Webber even. We should play Head significant preseason minutes, under Adelman he may flourish which hopefully would increase his short term trade value. 2. I would take Singleton. 3. Span is my least favorite Rocket PG since Moochie. But why give up on him for a 2nd rd to Dallas? Considering how weak this draft is at PG I think we should at least get a future 1st rd for Span. Imagine Yao, Cook, Wells, and James on the floor at the same time? Which one of these smilies=cringe?
entersesting read. he all but makes it sound as if getting rid of VSpan is all but certain. He mentions trading VSpan for a 2nd round Mavs pick but that certainly is not close to the hope of bringing in Artest for VSpan, Snyder and Sura. I do like the idea of adding Brian Cook if we can get him. He is a big physical player that has a nice outside shot. I don't know how could a passer he would be but I think I would give up Head for him. I don't really know anything about singleton.
Yeah, if any of this has credibility, I'd take Singleton clearly. JLIII is no loss whatsoever with James here. I don't mind them dealing V-Span either, though I don't like it being to Dallas. The Mavs have picks #34, #50 and #60 in this year's second round. Maybe the Head/Cook swap involves the Rockets/Lakers swapping picks (#20 for #26). Doubt it, but relatively close enough in draft position to where it's a possibility. Cook sure can hit the three, but man that is not the PF I'm hoping for. I look at Luther as a trade asset in a package deal ... I don't really care for this one-for-one. In general, all of those are fairly weak.
earlier on i was brainstorming a scenario where the rockets could pick up a second rounder and came up with alston for cook+turiaf(or vujacic at 1M more)+2nd round pick. i'm not sure if i posted it in the random trade thread cause in the end i felt cook while he has a manageable contract he still isn't a starter. i think with these moves hayes stays as a starter and i really hope that isn't the case.
I like all three of those deals. They bring good balance to the roster. Spanoulis for the Mavs 34 would be great. I think there could be a solid player to be had there. Possibly a Glen Davis. The 50 or 60 pick probably wouldn't be worth it. I'd rather just let Span go back to Greece than give him to the Mavs for one of those picks. JLIII for Singleton would bring some size and athleticism to the backup three position. He had a down year last year with limited minutes, but in 05-06 he was very efficient off the bench. Head for Cook would bring us that 4 man that can really spread the floor. Cook could also play some spot 5. These trades would leave us with: James / Rafer / (Third point for the minimum or part of the MLE) McGrady / Snyder / (Morris Almond-26th Pick) Battier / (Singleton) / Novak (Cook) / (Hayes or possibly Varejao with MLE) / Reed / (Glen Davis-34th Pick) Yao / (Big Jake or Deke) That's three very solid shooters around T-Mac and Yao in the starting lineup. Teams would really have to pay for doubling. Edit: I forgot Bonzi. If he gets in shape (Big If), he would obviously help a lot.
I look at it this way. If we could get Varejao and Cook we have a better version of Hayes and a better version of Juwan plus we have effectivly added Bonzi and MJ. That is a pretty solid offseason for a 52 win team.
cook has trouble staying on the floor like hayes. also not fond of vspan going to dallas. couldn't they swing a deal with seattle, boston, spurs or portland instead?
Can we get him, it seems like the cavs want to re-sign the Carlito look alike <a href="/nba/rumors/post/Cavs-want-Varejao-and-Pavlovic-to-return?urn=nba,36756">Cavs want Varejao and Pavlovic to return</a></h4> <p class="date">Monday, Jun 18, 2007 1:51 pm EDT</p> </div> <div class="bd"> <div class="small"><img src="http://f3.yahoofs.com/ymg/ept_sports_rumors/ept_sports_rumors-436523096-1182189066.jpg?ymKoFr9CI7xGEOwP" alt="Anderson Varejao" border="0" height="160" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="160"><p class="credit">Getty Images</p></div><p>The <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/cle/">Cleveland Cavaliers</a> face the prospect of losing two important ingredients from this year's group that advanced to the NBA Finals: forward <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3847/">Anderson Varejao</a> and guard <a href="http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3722/">Sasha Pavlovic</a>. </p><p>Both will be restricted free agents this summer, but Cavs general manager Danny Ferry and head coach Mike Brown want both players back.</p><p>"We'll go through the process (negotiations can begin July 1), whatever that is with their agents, to see that happen,'' Ferry said.<br></p> <p class="source">Source: <span class="source-link"><a href="http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/basketball/nba/cleveland_cavaliers/17377990.htm?source=rss&channel=ohio_cleveland_cavaliers">Akron Beacon-Journal</a><a target="_blank" href="http://www.ohio.com/mld/ohio/sports/basketball/nba/cleveland_cavaliers/17377990.htm?source=rss&channel=ohio_cleveland_cavaliers"><img src="http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/nt/ic/ut/bsc/newwin12_1.gif" alt="" border="0" height="12" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="12"></a>
