Sounds like the same article, with more quotes in from the agent. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/5904656.html Way to go, Buddy -- you just admitted you don't even have an offer. At least lie a little better than that..
Those are some of the best quotes I have heard so far from Buddy Baker. He sounds much more like a rational person than the quotes we have gotten in the past. The bad news... This is going to drag out all summer.
Dude is an idiot. LOL. "Well we are being told we are worth this much -------------, though the Rockets think we are only worth this much -, so we definitely are looking at all of our options, even though we haven't been offered any deals yet."
"...If I said ‘make me an offer,’ they would make me an offer." ?????? wtf is he saying? and "I don’t think these particular clubs have the resources it would take to make an offer that we would entertain”?????? so basically none of these clubs (if they do exist) has the money you're asking for (or dreaming of)? then what the heck are you talking about?
LOL! Buddy must have been a politician in another lifetime! I feel a little more optimistic after reading that tough.
Bad knees and 2010 rule should apply. If he gets a offer longer than 2 years. It would be a mistake for the Rockets to match. Read, no team has met their set price.
It's common sense... it's about to be Landry's 2nd year in the NBA and he has already had injuries eventhough he exceeded the expectations of his play... no NBA general managers are going to want to take a big chance of paying him bigtime money or the money they want a right now. His agent understands that and so does Morey and the rest of the league. Landry's smart choice would be to stick with the Rockets and Adelman's motion offense that frees him up while Yao and Tracy get doubled and he gets nasty dunks. He will get paid more later but not now.
Presumably because of his history of injuries. He is looking for a secure contract which pays him quite a lot as well.
Does Baker have an offer? As I always say, "I doubt it". Consider last year, Andray Blatche and Amire Johnson, both are full size PFs who have more up-side promise. They didnt receive any offers. Blatche actually showed some improvements in the summer league. Johnson was very productive when he was on the court last season. What did they get from their own ball clubs. Blatche got paid 2.5 millions and Johnson got paid 3.5 millions. Johnson was actually treated as a top 5 pick by Dumars after his 1st 2 seasons. Considering Landry is a sophomore, at 25, undersized, with a bumped knee, and lack of upside, the reasonable price for Landry will be around half MLE.
Its pretty much the same crap over again. Baker is waiting of a situation to arise that will net Landry a contract above his marker value. If a PF on a contender gets hurt or something of that nature happens then maybe it works, but it seems like it would be better for Landry to get his knee reevaluated so he can get the proper rehab and sign a one or two year deal.
basically landry doesn't have any offer. and buddy baker can't get any real "good" offer at this moment. if i am landry, i d fired that guy 10 days ago. he needs to pull some real strings and get this thing together or there will be no money left on the market any more.
Just curious. Why is it "bad news"? It's not like the Rockets targeted another player with the MLE and then lost out. The whole summer was Brent Barry and Landry with the minor transaction of Mutombo. Essentially, that IS the summer so "timing" doesn't seem relevant IMO.
Yea... although I don't think Houston is going to just offer him the min offer and hope no one matches. I figure we will offer about a 7 million dollar deal over 2 years or 10 over 3. Thats fair value for a backup. He doesn't have the height to attract offers from people that just want a big body.
These quotes are downright embarrassing. It might be time for Buddy Baker to think about a different profession because the agent thing wasn't a good idea.
I think Baker and Landry are fidgeting because Morey has done a good job. Morey put out a low qualifying offer and requested that Landry have his knee further examined. He also made it known that he will match any offers. As a result, it seems that Landry isn't getting any significnat offers. The overseas ploy was the result of Baker's frustration. He quickly changed his tone. That veiled threat may have actually done more damage than good. Morey is doing the right thing just waiting this thing out. We may end up getting Landry at a discount when all is said and done.
