An Article in the Chronicle today about KPJ. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...s-kevin-porter-jr-evaluation-nba-17882220.php It talks about how he is viewed in the league: "One of 11 players averaging at least 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and a steal, his totals for points, rebounds, assists, steals and 3s through 58 games played have been reached only eight other times in NBA history, with Porter joining LaMelo Ball, Luka Dončić, Gary Payton and James Harden, who did it five times. That’s why when opposing coaches and player speak about the challenge in matchups with a 20-win team, they cite Porter and Green as a backcourt partnership. “K-Porter and Jalen Green, those guys, they’ve been two-headed monsters,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said this week." It talks about his growth and how he is looking forward to the offseason on things he has to work on. About his Maturity issues - Silas says: "The Rockets also have moved past concerns with Porter’s maturity. He still can be more composed and less demonstrative during games, though that has improved, too. Off the court, the concerns with outbursts that made him available to the Rockets in a trade with the Cavaliers no longer seem to apply. “The growth … for him as a person has been marked. It’s huge,” Silas said. “He is thoughtful and selfless and those moments where he would be angry previously, he’s had less and less of those moments. Part of it is growing up. “So, he’s grown up on the court as far as being more experienced and understanding his job and understanding his part in the five that are on the floor, and also understanding his part in the 15 that are in the locker room. He’s done a good job with it.” It is a good read overall, about one of our most improved players and our best outside shooter. DD
4th year vet, most improved on a team full of youngsters. A) our player development is sht B) delusional poster Im leaning towards B
KPJ has certainly been Stone's best move so far. From a dude that was basically out of the league to a legit NBA starter with tons of untapped potential. A lot of people say Silas has hurt Green and Sengun's game but always leave out KPJ. If Green and Sengun can get better with a better coach so can KPJ, if The Rockets are looking for a big trade this offseason KPJ is the one teams will be asking for. I hope he stays thou.
Never seen a team try and fit around a non all-star caliber player in my life. Hope the Rockets aren’t the first
Rocket's point guard?? This Rocket?? Why do we care what a raccoon thinks about point guards? Weird thread man
I wanna build a starting lineup around Jabari/Green/Harden and a bench with KPJ and Sengun. It is really just about augmenting that 5 man group with 4 great defenders a at least one of which need to block shots and rebound. Eason and Garuba fit as 10th and 9th men One of Victor Wembayama, Myles Turner, Nic Claxton in this order into the starting lineup. One of Jaylen Brown, Bridges or Pascal Siakam acquired by trade. Sign either Dillon Brooks or Josh Hart. Optimal Victor/Sengun Smith/Garuba Bridges/Eason Green/Brooks Harden/KPJ
https://www.clutchfans.net/12685/2023-houston-rockets-offseason/ About KPJ: “He lacks ability to make advanced reads, which is one of the reasons the Rockets are dead last in corner three-point attempts. His tendency is to isolate, which is his strength, and that can create a lot of selfish basketball.” Nothing more to say, Your Honor!
18, 5, 5, 1 through 58. Isn't that the goal all players dream of? That oh so special 18, 5, 5, 1 through 58? Because that's definitely meaningful and it is definitely not some random meaningless bullshit thrown together.
Hey I’ve always liked him as a shooting guard. Wish he was more active without the ball and gave better effort on defense. But he’s clearly our best shooter by a very large margin. Given his handles and ability to play 1-3, he’s the ideal 6th man. As long as he’s being a good citizen on and off the court and willing to take on roles that benefit the team im happy to have him. He can definitely help us win; just not as the starting PG.
Biased opinions, while on payroll, is the gospel around these parts .. We'll at least it's a real writer and not some random twitter person ..
It was a good write up, but admittedly it might be setting up the narrative for a trade. Lots of Rockets narrative pieces on the way I suspect. DD
I also suspect that the effort to win some games lately means that we think that increasing the trade value of some players, like KPJ, has more value than a bigger chance of falling to 6-7 in the draft from 5-6
