    Juan Gabriel injured after falling from concert stage

    Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel fell while performing Sunday night at Toyota Center, reportedly breaking his wrist and suffering a concussion.

    Fans said Juan Gabriel, 55, apparently tripped and fell from the stage just minutes into his opening set and was taken to the hospital to be checked out, according to a Toyota Center statement.

    "He came out and he was dancing like he always does," said Concepcion Murawka, 53. Juan Gabriel was wearing his signature heeled shoes, which got tangled on a stage wire just before he fell, Murawka said.

    Maria Sabina, 43, who attended the show with Murawka, said she has loved Juan Gabriel's romantic music — and all the music he composes for other singers — her entire life.

    "I felt very sad for him," said Sabina, who watched from her 20th-row seat as Juan Gabriel made several spinning turns, lost his balance and fell off the stage. She added that he's "a good person who helps a lot of people in Mexico."

    Toyota Center said discussions are under way to reschedule the performance and that tickets for Sunday night's show will be accepted at that concert. A date will be announced soon.

    Juan Gabriel, born Alberto Aguilera Valadez in Parácuaro, Michoacán, grew up in extreme poverty in Ciudad Juarez, where he began singing in clubs under the name "Adam Luna." He went to Mexico City to pursue his career as a songwriter, changed his name and recorded his first big hit, No Tengo Dinero, in 1971.

    A six-time Grammy nominee, he has sold more than 30 million albums and has been acclaimed as one of the greatest Mexican composers of the late 20th century. More than 200 artists have recorded his songs.

    Juan Gabriel has also appeared in Mexican movie musicals including Nobleza Ranchera, Del Otro Lado Del Puerte and Es Mi Vida. Some of his most famous songs include Querida, Te Sigo Amando and Se Me Olvido Otra Vez.

    ========================
    He's sort of like the Michael Jackson of Mexico, alas with all the rumors and controviersies as well. He had owed taxes for a long time in the EE.UU. and didn't do shows because he had to pay. That was crazy.

    I have only seen him ONCE at the COMPAQ center. I am assuming he is too old to be twirling like he did that time I saw him. I pray for "el Divo mexicano". :(

    Anyone go to the concert? I didn't. My wife alerted me to these news.

    I work with two guys who also work at the Toyota Center so they can watch the Rockets' games... and they were there last night. They said the main reason he was injured was because there was no security in between the guard rail at the front and the stage like there usually is at concerts. They didn't have security there because they wanted the women to bring him presents... wtf is up with that? 15 seconds into his first song... BAM he trips over his mic cable and falls off the stage slamming his head on a speaker on the way down... freaking classic.

    The guy should have continued the concert and then gone to the hospital. Ozzy both knocked himself out and broke his foot one time on stage, and he finished both shows before getting medical help. Suck it up man.

    Well, that was because Ozzy had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that he needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried him was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a rock-star in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

    Don't really care for the dude but he can put on a show. He sings for over two hours and you get your moneys worth (if that is what u like).
    That is hard to say about singers these days.
