http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/entertainment/5096189.html Aug. 30, 2007, 3:24PM Jack FM to make Houston debut By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle The eclectic, iPod shuffle-like music format known as Jack FM makes its Houston debut at 10:37 a.m. Friday at 103.7 FM. The Cumulus Media station, now known as KIOL or Rock 103.7 FM, will be reformatted as KHJK, said Pat Fant, Cumulus' Houston market manager. Houston will be the seventh market in Texas and the fifth top 10 market in the country to add Jack FM, which formats about a thousand songs by 500 artists in 18 genres of music dating from the late 1960s through today. Jack FM operates without live DJs, so Cumulus will attempt to find positions elsewhere in the company for Rock 103.7's current on-air personalities.
So much for KLOI doing what listeners want when KLOL was shut down. Piece by piece, the station was dismantled. I guess they didn't have the listenership they thought they would.
This station will crack you up ... Current song : Baby Got Back - Sir Mix-a-Lot Next song : Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd lol.
Exactly the same. Same company, I believe. It's "Bob" in Austin, "Jake" (I think) in San Antonio, and now "Jack" in Houston. It's ok, I guess, as long as you like top 40 radio from the last 25 years or so. At least there isn't a bunch of inane chatter.
yeah jack FM has been out here in la for a while now and its one of the few radio stations i can listen to now when they are playing music. i mean its candle in the wind followed by unforgiven then that umbrella song its a great little mixup of songs that is fun to listen to
Sirius, XM, CDs, your Ipod, or KPFT on the weekends. Houston FM music radio absolutely f*cking sucks purple donkey ****.
Except for Country Legends. Pretty sad when the best thing on the radio in 2007.....is Ronnie Milsap.
"Bob" quickly became my favorite station in Austin when they came on the scene. Glad Houston is getting one.
Yeah, when they announced it I wondered did the time for KLOL-style radio in Houston pass them by. I guess it did. To everyone saying it's just like ipod shuffle, well I don't have a shuffle in my car!! So it works fine for me. I wonder how long I can continuously listen to the station thuough without hearing a string of terrible songs that I don't want to hear.
Have it in College Station. HATE IT. Absolutely hate it. They play EVERYTHING and I would rather listen to NOTHING. Mostly big hits and gimmick songs. Its like radio for people who don't know or like music.
We have several JACK stations in TN and I love it. For the most part, every song they play is one that I don't find annoying which I can't say for other radio stations. Also, they don't have the BS morning shows which are so obnoxious to me. I listen to the radio for songs not to hear a bunch of tools trying to be funny.
