Investors demand answers for 1-7 record
McNair discusses team's status with his limited partners

Like stockholders whose investment was bottoming out, Texans shareholders demanded a meeting with the chairman and chief executive officer.

So owner Bob McNair hosted his limited partners at a recent meeting.

"I believe in treating my partners the way I'd like to be treated, and the way I'd like to be treated is I'd like to know what's going on," he said. "We've been having a tough time, and I know they have the same questions that I have."

McNair, who has 11 limited partners, answered questions about his team, which is tied for the NFL's worst record.

    He also listened to opinions.

"I understand how they feel," McNair said. "They've got friends asking them things like, 'Why don't you bench David Carr?' and 'Why don't you fire the coach?' and 'Why is Charley Casserly still here?' and 'Why didn't you make some big trade?'

"We just try to give them information so they can give intelligent answers to those questions."

McNair listened to some of his partners vent, and everyone left feeling better. Momentarily, at least.

It was the first time McNair met with his limited partners specifically to discuss the Texans' plight.

"We hadn't had any need to do that," he said. "I have regular meetings with them, anyway, so there was nothing unusual about having the meeting.

"I just thought at this particular time it was appropriate to just give them a briefing as to what's going on, what we're doing and why we're doing it."

    "Operation CYA"
Even their biggest homer and defender Mark Vandemeer said Capers wont be here if this continues.

The perfect opportunity for McNair to slam Carr, Casserly and Coach while letting the rest of us know they are all on the hot-seat.

I think everyone will forget about this season if we bring in Jimmy Johnson in the offseason. If I were a limited partner in the Texans investment, I'd want to have a good offseason in terms of public relations. Otherwise, this could really degenerate into the Oilers part II -- large erosion of fan support, empty stadiums, poor talent.

There will never be an "Oilers II" - Jimmy Johnson or not. Even in rough times this organization has more class.

I'm more concerned with becoming the Arizona Cardinals, or even the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (sans Superbowl). :( I'd rather not root for decades before seeing a winner.

This is pretty obvious PR. " Dom and Cass, you Know I think the world of you guys and if it were up to me we would work together to fix this thing, but those ol' investors, they don't know you like I do and they just are judging from the results"

That is usually followed by " so we are going to move in a different direction" which means you are fired but I guess he just won't do it till after the season and really there would be nothing to gain by it since there is 0 chance of anyone on the current staff going from interim coach to coach.

When Bradshaw and Howie started kidding Jimmy about who might take over the Texans on the pre-game yesterday he was as transparent as a five year old with a secret. I think he's coming but he will want total control of all footbal issues, like GM/Head coach with a strong assistant head coach and a long enough deal that he has time to rebuild the team in his image before he is evaluated. (4 years?)

Return on investment? Huh? This is probably a bad time to do a business valuation of the Texans. Hmmm, maybe I should try the APV approach over the WACC one. Damn, do I lever or unlever the Beta? Ba = Bd(D/V) + Be(E/V). Crap. What's the risk premium, anyway? Aw, screw it. Just fire everyone.

I hope you are right. At this point JJ seems like a very nice pick. He made some great moves in Dallas and demands respect from his players. At this point the Texans are such a trainwreck that things can't get any worse.

The Texans could go 0-16 for the next decade and the team will still make assloads of money, so I'm not sure what these "investors" are whining about...

    Great post Dubious.

I was thinking the same thing, and really hope that that is the stuff happening behind closed doors.

Finally, the investors have stepped up. I'm surprised McNair hasn't taken action to clean house. With a confused QB, crap OL and poor management moves, something needs to be done.
