    Intriguing comments on Yao ;)

"Yao Ming, of course," he said. "He is mobile enough to be a force. He runs the floor very well. He has a soft jump shot, good skills. For him, it is just the concept, the job description, that he must learn. That lane, it belongs to him. Everybody has to go through you. You reject everything that comes in there. It is your house.

"It is more of a mental picture for him to get in his mind and then extend out to other teams. 'Oh no, we have to face the Rockets and Yao Ming! We have so much to worry about!' He needs that mentality. Everybody talks about his skills. But he is a gentleman on the court. No. It is not a place for gentlemen. Not in the lane. He must be a force.

"It is about so much more than stats. It is that toughness, that image, that force that all big men must project. Tracy McGrady is a great player. But this is Yao Ming's team. It should be. He has so much more to offer. It is not out of reach. I am a realistic person. He has what it takes. But he is trying to fit in when he should be making everyone fit in around him.

"Maybe you say it is cultural. I don't know. But he can change. He can be taught. Let him see how it's done. I know he has obligations this year (in China) with the world tournament. But next year, maybe he is free. I plan to be here. Hopefully, with a bigger camp. I would like to work with him."

Yao and Hakeem. Some teacher. Some dream.

WOW!! Excellent analysis on Yao by Hakeem! He is dead on. Yao needs to bully everyone in the paint during the game and then FedEx some flowers after.

Hakeem says front court players should be tough and fierce. They have to project that image. Hakeem and Thorpe certainly did and the opposing frontcourt always had their hands full. And then I thought of the image that Yao and Howard project. Ugh! We are already hoping that Yao turns mean and to complicate the matters, we surround him with one of the biggest pansies to ever play in Juwan Howard.

Hakeem quotes also implies Ewing has not done his job. Once again Ewing pwned by Hakeem.

Time to kick Ewing out. :D

i know, me too. i don't think yao needs the mentoring as much as in the past, he's already begun to do exactly what dream is talking about, but there are very few things in basketball that would be as bad ass to me as dream working with yao ming. i think yao would love to do it if he's free.

The Rox should consider hiring him as a personal coach for yao...they don't necessarily need to give ewing the axe because olajuwon won't even be here most of the season. But whatever Dream can pass down to yao can be so beneficial to him and can pay dividends down the line throughout his years especially during his prime.

Why would hakeem be a good coach for yao, dream relied on his supreme athletiscism to create his shots wheras yao ming uses his size and strength down low. If hakeem had yao's speed with the skills he has at 6-10 would havejust been a mediocre player imo.

Thanks Olajuwon.......Yao Ming will surely get this message from you, and he is working hard in these areas so as to be able to follow your steps to lead his Rockets to repetitive NBA championships !! :D :D :D

Like Hakeem said in the article, it's not about skills. It's not about how to create shots. It's about the mental aspect of the game. Being a force in the paint, how to project dominance.

Dream's always been a bit more cerebral when it comes to the big man in the NBA. That's what he's saying about Yao......Yao's got the game, he just needs to refine his mentality......be more of a force on both ends of the floor.....

    I'll take Dream's own words...

"He is mobile enough to be a force. He runs the floor very well. He has a soft jump shot, good skills. Tracy McGrady is a great player. But this is Yao Ming's team. It should be. He has so much more to offer. It is not out of reach. I am a realistic person. He has what it takes. But he is trying to fit in when he should be making everyone fit in around him.

Maybe you say it is cultural. I don't know. But he can change. He can be taught. Let him see how it's done."

It's enough to give you chills.

    Houston Trade Breakdown
    Outgoing

    Patrick Ewing
    7-0 C from Georgetown
0 rings in many years, 1 arrest from a Gold Club visit

    Incoming

    Hakeem Olajuwon
    6-10 C from Houston
2 rings and best center ever
Change in team outlook: 3 rings over the next 5 years

    Successful Scenario
Due to Houston being over the cap, the 2321347% trade rule is invoked. Houston had to be no more than one tutoring of Yao by Hakeem away from the next championship for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
