Thank god Surgarland dropped out. The only thing worse than a Sugarland stadium would have been a Katy one. I would love to see it around the Heights. Maybe buy out some of those warehouses? With all the new development in-town this should be a great addition to the houston area!

    Thread title:

"Dyanmo and city to reach deal"

    Quote in article:

"It doesn't mean a deal has been reached"

haha. you must have just missed the edit I made to the thread title. I thought putting "to" reach deal would work but I see how that is misleading. Cross your fingers

They'll reach a deal. It'll be next to Minute Maid Park. Actually just across street on Texas Ave. and 59 where the season ticket holder parking lot is.

What makes you think that? That is on the southside of 59 right?

They are working on that huge park/lake inbetween the stadiums and they are building a bayouplace like entertainment complex in the same area.

Everyone owes Lee. Brown for everything

If you're on Texas Ave. driving towards the 59 underpass, it would to the left at the Lofts at the Ballpark. I cover the Dynamo for a local outlet and that's place the Dynamo would like to have their stadium. It would be a great location. I don't want to see a stadium out in Pearland or Sugarland. It needs to be here in Houston. FC Dallas plays in Frisco and that stadium is in the middle of no where. There are grain silos a few hundred yards from the stadium. It's an up and coming area, but it's a drive from D/FW area. The Dynamo averaged 18+ K their first year. Very impressive. In order to keep up those numbers, they need to be in Houston.

Good news. I can't imagine driving out to sugar land for all the dynamo games.

Definintely good news. I live in Austin and my parents in The Woodlands. So, when I come in for a game, the last thing I would have done would be to drive to Sugarland, Katy, or Pearland for a game. Downtown is not too far and I can get there via the Hardy. Any of those "remote" locations would have been very bad for the Dynamo. Besides, how many other MLS teams would be able to say they have a downtown stadium? I would be willing to bet we'd see our share of MLS Cups and All-Star games if this gets done.

Here's a map highlighting the area they are looking at.

Here's the google maps version of the area that isn't rotated.
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=77001&ie=UTF8&ll=29.755827,-95.35355&spn=0.007312,0.014334&t=h&z=17&om=1

The area is currently used as Astros season ticket holder parking and the two blocks closest to 59 would be converted into a parking garage to replace the llost parking spaces.

Also, Oliver Luck has said in the past that the stadium will be privately funded. The only thing they are asking the city for right now is the land and maybe infrastructure changes if any are needed, which is doubtful for that area. Of course that's not official and could change as the negotiations continue.

The deal would also include the team building a soccer complex and training ground somewhere else in Houston. That was what the Gus Wortham land was being talked about being used for earlier.

Agree with everyone who wants it downtown. As someone who is trying to get into it and be a fan I would not drive out to sugarland or any berb to watch soccer.

I think it's important to get soccer stadiums in downtown areas, not least because it's still fighting the perception that it's an affluent-suburban sport. Go Dynamo.

They need to tear down the abortion that is George R. Brown and put something up there.

How awesome would it be to hit an afternoon Astros game and an evening Dynamo match with a pitstop at the B.U.S.?

They just did that huge expansion a few years ago that was vital to getting the hilton hotel up. It brings in a huge number of conventions every year. What is your beef with it?
