    CB plans to sit
 for a spell unless
 Texans comply

    By JOHN MCCLAIN

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6392245.html

Excerpt:[rquoter]Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson will report to the Texans for the conditioning program if they will agree to not put the franchise tag on him in 2010.

Robinson, who has been working out in New Jersey because he is unhappy the Texans franchised him, might miss some regular-season games if the Texans don’t agree to his request.

The Texans aren’t expected to agree. [/rquoter]

Dunta is either getting bad advice or he is smoking some fullofmyself ganja. I fail to see how sitting out regular season games helps his cause. Of course the secondary can take a nosedive and the Texans panic and give Dunta the contract he wants, but this is a TO type of move IMO.

Someone has got to talk some sense into him. I have to believe he is getting terrible advice from his agent.

I agree. It really doesn't make sense otherwise. He does say he's planning on finding a new agent, so hopefully the new guy does talk sense into his head.

Wow.....I really can't believe he's doing this after all the support he's gotten from the team and the city after his injury. If he's willing to go as far as sitting out actual games, I would leave every ounce of respect I have for him. He still stands to make $10,000,000 this year, and his agent is a moron.

So Dunta's trying to bail on the Texans after this season and make sure the Texans get absolutely NOTHING for him. Yeah, I'm sure that'll fly.

Dunta has talked himself into a corner by going public with this so early. I guess he won't be joining the team "until sometime during the season". At this point, I hope the Texans sign DeMeco Ryans and trade Dunta away. No team is going to give him much more than $23 million guaranteed. If he had been a true "lockdown corner", his stance would be more understandable. But he isn't half the CB Asomugha is.

I don't really care if he misses conditioning drills in the offseason, and his mentioning missing regular season games is just a bluff because he'll be losing a lot of money if he decides to do this.

The Texans are in complete control of the situation. Having only a one year deal in place forces him to play well or else he will not get a big contract from anyone.

That's why he's unhappy. If he gets injured again he's screwed.

The more games he misses, the less likely he will.

Time for a hard line stance with a little love.

Smith needs to let him know that he is part of our future plans and that if necessary, we will franchise him the following season. However, we would rather get a long-term contract done now.

Let him know he is free to make his own decision, but that is the stance of the Texans.

His options are really quite limited. Hold out and lose money. Pout and refuse long-term deal and suffer a second straight franchise tag thereby limiting his final (and it will be final by then) contract given age. Or re-start negotiations and try to get something worked out now.

I actually wonder, if the Texans even care to work something out during this off-season. They may rather wait until next.

Then he probably should have taken the contract that guaranteed 23 million dollars.

Let me say this. I love Dunta. I have loved his attitude and his passion he has brought to the Texans defense. However, I must say this, I am losing a ton of respect for the guy. Unfortunately, I have to side with the Texans on this one.

As an organization, I dont want them to go down this road. No one player is more important than the franchise. The Texans obviously have a number they feel Dunta is worth. Lets also be frank. While Dunta has been good, he certaintly is not in the league of the top shutdown corners. As such, I dont believe he should hold out until he is paid like one.

Here is to hoping the Texans and Dunta can work something out. I just hope that things do not get this ugly with Demeco.

Robinson must be reading the ink on him from his first couple of seasons. He has not been nearly as good since. While he is our best CB, I would rather do without him than put up with this kind of crap from him.

I just cannot sympathize with a guy that is making $9.5M this season and still wants to b****.

I don't know why he turned down that original offer for good money. He's got to be freaked out that he's going to not be able to get back to where he used to be and won't get paid, but nobody is going to make him one of the highest paid corners in the league till he proves it.

It won't hurt us as bad as we think to lose him.

He needs to make a Pro Bowl, consistently be in the top 5 in a defensive category or two, then he will have the right to act like a Dallas Cowboy.
