http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2006/10/yaos_back_bonzi_too_maybe.html Damn, I'm tired of this shoe talk. But the good news is that it sounds like Yao is back on the court. And maybe we can pencil him in for the game on Tuesday. Can't wait. Though sounds like Bonzi is still up in the air. Too bad.
Do you think Bonzi would appreciate being a backup player? I think that with him off the bench we'd be really tough. I'm just not sure there will be many shots for him in the starting lineup.
If Snyder keeps playing well and it translates into the regular season, Bonzi will come off the bench.
I think if Bonzi is healthy and in shape, he wil play a lot. He will certainly play ahead of Kirk Snyder, who has looked good. I like this problem of dividing up playong time at the two guard between Snyder, Bonzi, McGrady, and Luther Head.
I hope so. Synder has really impressed me on the defensive end so far. He's been downright nasty at times guarding people. And there's no reason why that can't continue, he's got all the tools to be a ferocious defender. If he can keep it up, I'd rather have him start at the two guard and set a defensive tone at the wings along with T-mac. Bonzi came off the bench in Memphis. And if he did come off the bench here, it'll be as the first scoring option off the bench, so that would serve his interests. If he plays well off the bench, he could get some recognition for sixth man of the year voting, giving him a boost heading into free agency.
You do realize the regular season starts two weeks from Wednesday, Bonzi came into camp out of shape (because of his groin) and he has yet to see any live action. He may not even play on Tuesday. If Snyder keeps playing well I would be stunned if Bonzi is made the starter over him against the Jazz. Bonzi will get more minutes than Snyder and probably eventually push him aside, but right now, Synder is on 2nd base and Bonzi hasn't even taken batting practice. We will see if Bonzi was truthful when he said starting wasn't important to him.
Having watched the first unit player (without Yao, of course), I have come to the conclusion that Wells' best fit would be as a backup, that way he doesn't have to worry as much about Yao clogging the lane or playing second/third-fiddle on the offense. Moreover, I think we have plenty enough of firepower with a starting five of Yao, T-Mac, Battier, Snyder, and Alston. I think we desperately need a go-to guy on offense with the second unit, and both Wells and Howard -- along with Head, Novak, and our young guys -- would do the trick. Otherwise, that second unit would be blowing big leads every night and averaging 20 turnovers a game. I vote for Wells with the 2nd unit, and I think that JVG will be going with that arrangement come Nov 1...
Why does everyone keep on typing Kirk's last name as "Synder"? Is he related to Dwyane Wade or something? And yes, I see Kirk starting over Bonzi unless Bonzi trims down and learns the system quickly. The team seemed to have operated well with Kirk, so why mess with it? Glad to see the guys back, I just hope they don't re-injure themselves. I never had toenail removed, but isn't his toe nail only about 1/3 of the way out at this point? Anyhow, I'm eager to see how the guys adjust to having Yao around. Having a big man is important, but it's not always easy to work your big man into the system.
While Snyder has looked great, I too think that Bonzi will eventually get more time. What's wrong with having Yao and Bonzi both in the linup? With Yao in the game, there's either going to be shots from Yao or jumpers. Bonzi can help rebound Yao's missed shots, and there's nothing wrong with having Yao and Bonzi both attacking the boards for missed jumpers. Just because Bonzi's shots end up in the lane, doesn't mean he has to plant his ass there. The basketball court is big, and there is plenty of space for Yao even with Bonzi in the game.
On the BBS' main page, all it says is: [Chron Blog] Yao's back;.. Did anyone else immediately go "WHAT about Yao's back????????" I swear, my heart must have skipped a beat or two. "Back" is a sensitive word around these parts
Just a heads up: Channel 2's Sports Sunday will feature a story on Yao Ming talking about the team and season. They'll also have a quick interview with Bonzi about his progress.
Photos of Yao Ming & the Rockets at the team practice on Sunday. So Yao Ming has a haircut, and resumes training.....and he told the Chinese reporters from sina.com that he will play in the game with Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday !!
I think that's the best hair cut he's ever had....the big man looks sharp and ready to go.. or is it because we haven't seen him on the court for a long time ???
did yao get this toe problem from someone stepping on him "once" or is it from last years pounding? Im confused. Seems like a dallas player would step on him on purpose and yao will have a bruised toe again right since his shoes dont prevent this??.. He really should stuff some of that marshmellow foam material like those foam beds and put it in his sock and cover his big toes.
Ok, so who's lying about their height here? Yao is obviously at least two times the size of Battier, yet they are only listed 9 inches apart.
