Tracy McGrady was in a fine mood before Saturday's game. He did his shooting, went against Shawn Respert and said he and Rick Adelman are just fine.

The quote that a few of you sent to the blog Saturday afternoon was from a video that he said was old and now out of date.

He seemed completely all right with Rick Adelman's intention to wait until McGrady reaches a level of play in which he fits.

This is not PR. One thing that has become abundantly clear over the years and especially in the last few weeks, McGrady doesn't do PR.

Adelman did not seem particularly frustrated with the issue, either. I would be. Every time someone trots out some conspiracy theory, they are basically saying Adelman is lying.
He has said he plans to play McGrady when he thinks he is ready to make the team better and handle the job without setbacks. Others have said he never plans to play McGrady.

Adelman seemed so unconcerned with such accusations — maybe it is part of coaching — he joked that he offered to bring McGrady back to face LeBron James and that McGrady wisely passed on the offer.

As for my long-held prediction that McGrady would be back for the Philly-Toronto road trip, it doesn't sound too likely. Adelman also said that he doesn't want to ask McGrady to try four games in five nights, and that comes soon after next weekend's trip. The rule of the blog is that you can't change a prediction once you make it, so next weekend it is.

Whether he returns sooner or later, however, there is an irony to the on-going debate and drama.

McGrady is ahead of schedule. If he left it at that and waited to get the call, there would be questions asked to be sure, but Adelman would answer them as he has and that would be that.

He really has been clear for some time. But when McGrady announced an early target date and then said he considers himself ready, he changed expectations.

Now, he seems fine with the plan. And for what it is worth, he said he is shooting great, just like that night in Minnesota when he put on a uniform and changed the subject.
    [/rquoter]

So, when do you guys think he returns? Here's the schedule for the rest of the month:

    Code:
    G Date Opponent
    21 Wed, Dec 9, 2009 Cleveland Cavaliers
    22 Fri, Dec 11, 2009 @ Philadelphia 76ers
    23 Sun, Dec 13, 2009 @ Toronto Raptors
    24 Tue, Dec 15, 2009 Detroit Pistons
    25 Wed, Dec 16, 2009 @ Denver Nuggets
    26 Fri, Dec 18, 2009 @ Dallas Mavericks
27 Sat, Dec 19, 2009 Oklahoma City Thunder
28 Tue, Dec 22, 2009 Los Angeles Clippers
    29 Wed, Dec 23, 2009 @ Orlando Magic
    30 Sat, Dec 26, 2009 @ New Jersey Nets
    31 Sun, Dec 27, 2009 @ Cleveland Cavaliers
32 Tue, Dec 29, 2009 New Orleans Hornets
    33 Thu, Dec 31, 2009 Dallas Mavericks

There are actually two sets of 4-games in 5-nights after this weekend. If Adelman wants to keep him from playing those games, we may have to wait until Dec 27th.

They could, in theory, start him at the Nuggets on the last game of the first set of 4 games in 5 nights.

But my guess is the 26th.

The upcoming schedule is damn tough and brutal for us, man. If we could survive from those stretches, we would end up with pretty surprising spot in the standings

    durvasa, what a TOF.

Everyone has soured on Mcgrady's act because he is a slothful evil individual. Adelman want's what is best for this TEAM and this TEAM doesn't want Mcgrady because he doesn't want to play TEAM ball. Morey is god, Adelman is Jesus, Mcgrady is the devil - THIS IS REAL FOLKS.

just thought i would start the Mcgrady bashing early.

My sense is that both McGrady and the Rockets would prefer he returns in a road game. Less pressure.

I'll go with the 19th. It would make sense for his return to be against a team we have a solid chance of beating.

if tmac isn't traded by then, i'll go with 12/29.

adelman wants to avoid the 4 games in 5 nights so you scratch that part out. we have 2 sets of backs to backs after that. so 12/29 is my guess according to what adelman said.

Yeah, 19th sounds like a pretty good possibility. Again, I was thinking road game, but OKC and LAC at home, with 2 days of rest in between, is a softball early schedule for McGrady.

RA said he didnt want mcgrady to play 4 in 5 nights. And since RA wants mcgrady to play all the games and not have to sit out any, the next time looks like the 29th.

So im going with the 29th or later.

Yea my reasoning is a home game against an easy opponent. Announce he's going to be activated before game day to try and drive up ticket sales There's still fans out there that believe in Mac and don't read every article out on the internet to sway their opinion on him. So they might want to see his return in person... Well I could be speaking for myself. :)

    Feigan is a r****d..........

Why is he dismissing the notion that maybe Tmac has finely wised up to the error of his previous ways and is finally trying to just toe the line, because he now knows he has no control.

McGrady is such a piece of crap. Its easy to say all sorts of stuff when you know you are NOT going to play. Its easy to seem brave, and say your ready and all that crap.

I cannot wait till this guy is gone.

19th. They will want him to play his first game at home, and not back to back.
