Didnt see this posted, but if it is lock it up... http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2006/11/bugle_call_for_bonzi.html "This is for the basketball-infirmed, who claim the Rockets don't need Bonzi Wells to be a real contender. This is for the ones who are saying "trade him" already. First of all, they can't trade him until late January. Then there's the matter of the Rockets needing Bonzi on a night like this for his post-up offensive moves, his ability to rebound and the experience he brings to playing late in games. So far, we know the Rockets can win when Yao is Godzilla in the middle and piling up points. We know the Rockets can win when they are like a hot shooter on the carnival midway, knocking down all of those 3-pointers to win kewpie dolls. It's early, and they have won 10 games in November for the first time since 1996. But if the Rockets are going to be serious contenders -- and not just make a courtesy first-round playoff appearance -- they'll need Bonzi to be that third scoring option. Especially on nights when they can't figure out a way to get the ball to Yao and T-Mac is shooting like he's wearing a blindfold. The reason they got Bonzi was for him to be that third option. During this tougher stretch of the schedule -- nine of 12 games on the road -- you'll see why they're going to need him." I couldnt agree more. This team is going no where without Bonzi. Our bench is lame at best. Bonzi would be a HUGE boost...then hopefully Snyder will get back when he's supposed to, and we'll be in good shape.
There is no doubt that Bonzi is brought here to be a third option. But the big question is, is he worth keeping around, if he's just gonna sit there and pout and not work to get himself on the court and into game-shape?
could it be possible that Bonzi is actually performing pretty well in practices and is actually at the weight JVG requested, but JVG is simply keeping him until the playoffs so that teams will be totally unprepared for a monster wells then? Just my 2 cents. Also, us winning doesn't hurt either.
The reason why Bonzi is playing is because we are doing relatively well record wise, and he has been a nut case work ethic wise, so JVG takes the tough stance. Remember the first several games, we lost to Utah and NOK, JVG put Bonzi in for extended minutes. I didnt see he was fitter than now. I trust JVG on this one. He knows what he is doing. If Bonzi isnt playing, that probably means he wont help the team.
See, I don't trust JVG....I think he would sacrifice a player to maintain his control and make a point. DD
While I don't trust JVG 100% either, I think he'd sacrifice his left leg for a couple of wins. Hey, you changed what you originally said. Well, I agree that he'd sacrafice player development, but not to maintain control in my opinion. While I think control is a big issue with JVG, it's only a means to the end of winning at all costs. I mean, last year's Denver game should have proved that, along with pretty much everything JVG has ever said. He's about practice leading to wins, wins leading to playoff prep, leading to a championship. While my philosophy is not 100% in line with JVG's, I respect that he's standing up for his beliefs. His ultimate goal is to win a championship and I believe him. Everything he does is meant to meet that goal. But he really believes in winning as much as possible, because imo, JVG believes winning in the regular season is better for a championship run. He believes in practicing hard and high standards, not for his ego, but to win.
eddie griffin. i think everyone hear agree's that this team needs a 3rd scorer. i tihnk everyone here also agree's that we have one on the roster, he's just getting in shape / in the dog house. the easiest way to handle this is to get bonzi on the same page an the rest of the team. get him healthy, in shape, and in the game. if things can't work out, then we could allways trade him for another scorer.
I agree... I hate all the trade talk simply because of how great Bonzi could be for the team. I know its frustrating that he is not playing, especially with the excuses we're given, but I'm very willing to let it play out... the potential is just too much for me.
That and more... That's taken from his hoopshype.com profile. Pretty accurate. He, unlike anyone else we have on this team outside of Tracy and Yao, doesn't need to play off of someone else to be effective on offense. He has the ability to take a game over from time to time.
