I did everybody a favor and left this in the D&D. Hopefully the hate spewing from bitter mini-politicians won't bleed over into the GARM. LINK As a person of mixed descent (Chinese White), the election of a mixed president hasn't affected me much since everyone considers him de facto black, and there hasn't been much dialogue going on about it to make it an issue. However, it impresses me to no end that he, a person who easily could have had a following of none since it's all to easy to identify him as an Other, won the following of the majority. I'm not as trustworthy as Obama. I would never put my fate in the hands of so many other people to judge. I've already felt the consequences of not belonging to a certain group often enough. People can have the best intentions going into an evaluation process (like say a job interview) and still bias themselves irrevocably without thinking about it. We by nature are wary of the unfamiliar. So before you dive back into the politics, take a moment to imagine if you can another barrier in Obama's path that has made his accomplishment so amazing.
Are you in anyway mad at your parents for your mixed race? Have chinese accepted you as chinese? I know chinese from mainland of china do not even like American Born Chinese so I am always wondering how they treat mixed race chinese.
it isn't his mixed race that makes people look at him funny, it's the ears...meme que The Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers.
I'm more cool with people not my race. Something about Asians annoy me. I guess I'm a reverse anti-racialist. I guess asking upfront questions on the net is a way to learn, but you should keep in mind that whatever answer you get shouldn't reinforce or negate whatever preconceived notions you're having especially with the way you're asking the questions.
1. No. It's not easy from childhood to adolescence, but being of mixed lineage is nothing special these days. There are quite a few of us, and most find one race to identify with, usually the one they grow up around culturally. If you don't, then chances are you are that much stronger when you hit your adult years because you've a greater will and drive to prove yourself than others. There are mixed professional athletes, as mentioned in the article. And now there's a mixed president. Mixed kids tend to do better than their peers academically and professionally, and even though there's no real evidence supporting that statement I stand by it. 2. I have never been to China, but I've been to Taiwan five times or so. I've never found myself discriminated against, mostly because I can speak enough Chinese to get by, and I don't really have an accent. That being said, my group of friends are FOBs, nor are they ABCs although I get along with them just fine too.
wow lots of hateful bigots leaving comments on the chron page. i'm dumbfounded that people that follow the NBA can be such racist a$$holes. hell the same goes for this site at times (D&D). why don't bigots like this make it easier on everybody and just go watch nascar, or watch old tapes of pre-tiger woods pro golf? let the rest of us enjoy our NBA in peace.
