http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3679226.html Anderson could be traded Name floated, but a few things hold back a deal By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle The Rockets moved close to today's trade deadline without a deal, but at least five teams are considering acquiring guard/forward Derek Anderson. The Rockets have tried to complete a deal to move Anderson to the Heat, Cavaliers, Lakers, Nuggets or Magic. However, each team had other, greater priorities, making a deal with the Rockets unlikely until closer to today's 2 p.m. deadline. The Rockets would like to add a backup point guard or draft picks for Anderson. The Magic have an excess of point guards, though teams throughout the league have tried to acquire one of their backup guards. "Everyone's aggressive right now to try to better their team," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "I don't think there's one team that's not aggressively looking to better their team. Some general managers will tell you that. Usually the losing ones, like us ... you guys would think we were nuts if we said, 'You know what, we really like how it's going this year. This is good stuff right here, so we're going to stand pat and feel good.' "The other ones are going to try to con you. They're trying to get better, too. Detroit is, I'm sure, going to try to find a backup point. Either you're going to try to get better or you're trying to dump contracts so you can get better. "Either way, you're trying to do something. But every article is the same: We don't expect anything to happen. If it doesn't, 'It's hey I told you.' If it does, it came up at the last second." jonathan.feigen@chron.com
I'd love to see us bring in a quality back up point guard, but I can't say I'm thrilled about the idea of anything we can get for Derek Anderson. Would anybody really give us a first round pick? I don't think even the best teams would want to part with their draft pick for Derek Anderson at this point. I really hope we have bigger plans than just unloading Derek Anderson, but it looks unlikely.
i dont think i really care what we get...just as long as we get something from DA... i guess ive gotten that desperate.
I know i'm alone in this, but I hope we keep DA and JVG gets fired , and DA can finally play. He deserves a chance and Gumpy isn't giving it to him.
He can't shoot! 70% of his shots hits the front edge of the rim and bounces right off... he got nothing!
I am with you on keeping Derek Anderson, but I hope it is because JVG and Derek find an understanding, not because JVG is fired. Also, I'll voice my anger here... we need to stop calling him 'DA'... that was his nickname given by the San Antonio announcers and I don't like that nickname because of that. We should, as rocket fans(not SA fans), give him a new start. Giving him his name back can be a start. His last year with San Antonio, the announcers called everyone by their initials and it was stupid: AD, DA, TD, DR, AJ... it was stupid and we as Rocket fans should recognize that. He's Derek Anderson, Anderson, Derek or Mr. Anderson(like Matrix). Of course, if you want to be a San Antonio guy, keep calling him AD on this board.
he did play under JVG. then he got hurt. i wasn't too impressed when he played, definitely lost about two steps and was inconsistent. at the same time he's probably servicable but most teams i don't think would play him much (also see McKie).
The Lakers seem to be intrested in Anderson: (scroll down to: "Moving Day") http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_3536438
