Last year we went to Disney World. The year before, we went to San Diego (Sea Wolrld, Zoo, Scripps). This year, I am blocked on ideas. We (wife, 4 yr old son, and I) could repeat, but that might be a little on the lame side My first thought was that we could go skiing. But I have been in the Rockies (20 years ago) skiing during Xmas week and had to endure hour waits in lift lines (all sun and no fun). My wife likes Banff and plane ticks are not so bad. I have no idea how crowded the slopes are going to be that week. And there is a chance that my four year old son (who sometimes does not follow instructions) will enjoy the experience. A full week in the snow, while my son hating it, would be tough on the whole family harmony thing. My next thought was to go to the Carribean. Air fare I found was on the high side. For the price on the airfare I could rent a beach house in Galveston. An intriguing option in the Carribean was the Beaches Resort in Jamaica. They would have kid program for my boy, while the wife and I could go scuba diving or whatever But it was Jamaica about which I have heard bad things: hour ride to the airport (can drive to Galveston in an hour), medicine men on the beach (don't really want to explain that to the boy), abject poverty, etc. Also the one time I move the Carribean in November, the water was not so warm. Wife might want to do the Disney World vacation again. I want to do it every other year, since DW is such a complete zoo Xmas week. My last thought is Galveston. They are loaded with four old boy activities: riding the trolley, railroad museum, airport museum, Moody Garden complex, new water park, etc. The only downside is that the water will be too cold for my son to enjoy. We also do a week in Galveston every summer, so this would indeed be a repeat I was trying to avoid I am now open to suggestions and opinions. Is Banff crowded like Aspen during Xmas week? Is Jamaica as really bad as I heard? What are good family vacation spots for Xmas week? Help!
howbout a cruise there's a disney cruise.. also cruises from galveston, or alaskan cruise or europe trip
I imagine everything is booked at this point. I figure you would have to plan something like that WAY in advance.
North Lake Tahoe is family friendly. Has more of the scenic, outdoors stuff to do. South Lake Tahoe has the gambling areas since its in Nevada. As for kid friendly, its just basically just boating, hiking or riding bikes through the nature preserves. Its fun stuff, but not sure about kids though. They do have a Mcdonalds though!
Not to derail the topic or anything --- but I would never leave my 4 year old with a generic hotel staff person. Am I the only one that feels like that?
Beaches is a family all inclusive resort. We would leaving the boy with one of their staff who should be quite used to dealling with kids.
Really...I've never done Disney World, but years ago took our daughter...It was very nice and loved it...Rooms were big and the food was excellent...
I have been looking into Roatan on the Bay Islands of the Carribean near Hondura, Belize etc.. but i only need a 1 bedroom spot so this won't work for me - came across this advertised today, high temps are almost always in the 80s with lows in the 70s so it has warm water year round -------------- Villa Nuria Beach House If you are visiting Roatan and the mainland, consider this beautiful beach house with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on 150 feet of white sand and part of 2 mile long beach with private pool at $190 per night (2 night minimum). Or if you live on Roatan try a break. No sandflies. Very upscale beach area. Nearby rafting, kayaking, canopy, hot springs, hiking, horseback riding, 20 minutes from La Ceiba. We have just had a cancellation for the two weeks of Christmas and New Years in case anyone is interested. More info at: http://www.HondurasVacationRentals.com
