    Hi Everyone,

This is our first holiday season with a house, and were planning on getting a Christmas tree. Do you guys usually buy real ones or fake ones? I noticed a few nurseries on I-10 selling them for $39, is that a good deal?

    Thanks!

Depends on if you want to spend money on a tree every year or just spend money on a fake one and use it every year.

I get a real one every year. I like the smell of them and then I sink the tree with some bricks near the dock at my lake house.

Real ones can be messy though and you need to make sure you get the "fresh cut" before you put the stand on it. This is so it will take one water when you water it.

If you have never put up a real tree before, I would suggest you get the stand included when you buy it so you don't have to mess with it. They can be tricky trying to get straight in the stands. You can figure it out though.

As Swoly points out, it has everything to do with the height in terms of price. We always do a real one so we wait about 3 weeks or so before Christmas to get it so it's not crazy dead once the day rolls around

That's gotta be awesome for Crappie season. My grandparents did that as well as the neighbors and the Crappie would always congregate there to mate. Made it so easy to find, catch and eat.

I stay with fake since I have three dogs who like to wreck **** up. I don't need needles all over the house.

Real trees are nice but they make such a mess. Then you have to deal with disposal. If you have the space to store a fake tree, it's the way to go, IMO. Doesn't cost that much more and it will last you for years so you save in the long term.

Don't like the cleanup/disposal of real ones and the pine messes with my allergies.

We go with a fake one and pine scented plugins lol. (Not Glade though)

I'll say this though, if you want a fake one you need to spend some cash. Getting the $50 fake tree is a bad idea. They look so fake that it's bad. Plan to spend some real cash on one. You may even want to just go with a real one this year and wait until after Christmas to get a deal on one.

Fake, but make sure it's a nice one.

As for the smell, they do sell pine scented spray and candles

If it's not real, then it's not a tree.

    Fake all the way!
    - No annual fee with a fake tree like with a real tree
    - almost no fire hazard with fake trees
    - no need to water
    - no one talks about the tree turning brown by mid December if you put it up on thanksgiving
    - no needles to clean up
    - tree always has a nice shape
    - no sappy limbs with sticky substance to get on you

    You're right.

    Its a Christmas Tree.

Fake all the way. Prelit, with folding branches. Makes life so much easier.

Storage is a cost. Only downside to fake.

Fake all the way for me. What is the benefit of a real one? The smell? Buy a 99 cent air freshener.

You can find a good deal for a fake one if you follow sales pages. I bought a 6.5' one from Home Depot about 4 years ago and it still works perfectly.

I couldn't even imagine going through the hassle of a real tree.
