I'm helping to plan a corporate Christmas Party for about 80-100 people. Event will probably be "cocktail" dress. We are thinking about having a live band, probably along the lines of a jazz band, that can play some jazzy Christmas tunes (similar to Harry Connick Jr. type stuff) and then go into regular music that folks can dance to. Would "upscale jazz" be a type of band? I don't know, I just made it up. Suggestions?...I don't have the exact date of the gig yet, but it would be in December and it would be an evening cocktail event. Event is in Houston. Most likely will be located at the Junior League venue.
I have a jazz group. Our pianist sings and swing dancers like to come out to our gigs. We can play as a trio, quartet, or quintet. And we can do Christmas music. We also play weekly publicly so you can check us out in person. We do have 3 parties booked already in December though. If your budget is bigger, I can also recommend a 10 piece "little" big band if you'd prefer, though I don't know if they have Christmas repertoire. PM me through the board if you're interested.
Klockwork, they might be booked and/or expensive. But they are awesome! http://www.houstonentertainers.com/klockwork.htm
There's only one clip somebody's taken and put on YouTube (that I can find). Unfortunately, it's not in a swing style like most of our other songs (though we mix in bossa's, samba's, and cha cha's as well as a few pop tunes). <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qWcBIN9AdGs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And here are a few short vids taken with a phone. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150193002188716&set=vb.158991120310&type=2&permPage=1 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=423033078715&set=vb.158991120310&type=2&permPage=1 We play every Thursday at the Chocolate Bar in Rice Village from 7-10 if you wanted to check us out in person. We're also playing there tonight from 8-11, but we're backing a vocalist and the vibe is a little different. Not quite as jazz oriented as it is on Thursday. This is a somewhat older version of the trio. We typically use a drummer instead of guitar now. We've done the trio with sax, piano, and bass as well. A quartet would be sax, piano, bass, drums and for the quintet we'd add back in the guitarist who's also an excellent singer. He also leads his own party band. There's crossover between the two groups so if you wanted both jazz and a party band, he can do that. His website is: http://www.buzzandthebluecats.com/
I actually do have a real suggestion: (but you better book quick) http://www.gradygaines.com/cms_home/index.html <object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f51LQBPuFSc&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f51LQBPuFSc&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></embed></object>
You want a Holiday Party in December. Crazy, but that's a great idea. Beyonce charges 500,000 I think. She's not pregnant.
These guys are pretty good...... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/kUf-SbT6pqk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
That's right by my house (Junior League). Will there be alcohol? If so, put me in! It'd be cool to walk over, drink some egg nog, then take one of your female co-workers back to my place for some fun.
