This should be merged with the gambling thread and we could start taking bets. I'm leanin' towards no for south of I-10, probably not for south of Huntsville, and yes to north of Huntsville. It would be nice, though!!!
i'm betting it ends up being an ice event. the night before it's 25..then doesn't get warmer than 33. any significant preciptiation would likely end up in a cold rain/snow ice event, i'm guessing.
Last actual snow I remember was winter of '88. I remember because we grabbed about three cookie sheets and started sliding off the 610 overpass at Bellaire to the feeder below. Did that for about 20 minutes until the cops yelled at us.
we had flurries and ice in '90, as well. when i woke up on christmas eve 1990, there was ice all over the place.
Yeah, ummm not so much in the League City. You Northerners and your snow... Christmas Eve in the LC: Dec 24 Few Showers 49°/38° 30 % http://www.weather.com/weather/local/77573?lswe=77573&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared
last time i saw snow in houston was feb of 94 in clear lake. it was during 5th period my freshman year at CLHS and the teachers let us all out and we just played and starred at the "snow" for 50 minutes. it was great! it also melted as soon as it touched anything.
I remember that, I was at Creekside Intermediate. There are pictures of the snow day in the yearbook. It wasn't even cold outside.
actually, it was colder at my house the other night when we went below 30 then was advertised. i was hearing they didn't expect temperatures to creep below 33 or so in the city, actually...and we were down to about 29.
I've been checking the forecast at www.weather.com for my parents' house outside of Chicago. Yesterday, the 24th and 25th were snow showers, today those days are supposed to be sunny. Also, Sunday was supposed to be a high of 11 with snow showers, now it's 16 and fair. Weathermen can't get dick right about tonight, much less a week away. Put away the sled, MM.
geez, i remember the snow in '94 also because i was in middle school and our mean english teacher actually let us outside to be in it for a few minutes and then when we went back in they let the whole school out in it so we got to be in it twice. like you said though, it melted immediately. how sad is it when you live somewhere that snow is so rare that a description of a specific incident of "snow" is instantly recognizable to 3 people almost 11 years after it happened? that '88 (i thought it was '89) snow is the last real snow i remember in houston. there was still a tiny little patch of snow in the yard across the street on christmas morning. it did snow in austin last year to the point it actually stuck to the ground and people were throwing snowballs. i was outside in my pajamas freezing my ass off but it was fun. it didn't stay on the ground long, though.
Those things from space are called asteroids and those things people get on their butt are call hemrroids...shouldn't it be the other way around?
FWIW, weather.com isn't all that accurate. The National Weather Service in Houston says mid-40's on Christmas Eve in H-town. Sheesh, I feel like Debbie Downer now.
Going to be rather chilly around the Dallas area during that period. Temps in the teens. They originally had predicted snow, but now aren't. I don't care - I just want it to be COLD - the way winter/Christmas should be.
