I have a question for all the Christians who feel their faith leads them to support expanded "social justice" which is generally a liberal idea and thus supported by the Democratic party. How do you reconcile your support for more "social justice" with votes for Democratic candidates who support this while most, not all, of these same candidates support abortion? Do you feel that helping the needy through expanded "social justice" outweighs the "Though shall not kill" commandment? Most Christian denominations, if not all of them, are against abortion. There may be some that support it but I am unaware of any. I personally think it is murder. I am not trying to stir another long debate but I am curious to how other Christians feel about this subject.
So you say you're NOT trying to stir a long debate. How many responses do you reckon will be needed to address your question?
I answered this question in the other thread. I could also ask a reverse question or questions. Do you believe your feelings on abortion outweighs Jesus' command to do what brings peace since most not all GOP candidates supported a war started by the United States? Do you believe that your feelings on abortion outweighs the party more likey to bring peace but also is more important than the idea of providing the most needy of God's children in the U.S. with vital health care? Do you believe that your feelings on abortion also outweighs not only providing health care for the needy, and peace, but acting in discriminating ways towards certain groups of people? Do your feelings on abortion outweigh all of that? Do you remember what Jesus said when asked which commandments were the most important? If you don't I'll refresh your memory. #1 Love God # 2 Love your neighbor as yourself. The issues I spoke of deal with number 2. I'm curious why you believe thou Shalt Not Kill should be placed above the importance of the commandments as Jesus said were the most important.
Abortion is the one topic I will not discuss. But, I will say this... until it effects me personally, I will not judge others who make the decision to either keep or abort their pregnancy.
cml750, social justice is already being discussed in the thread you abandoned because you didn't "have time for this foolishness" and had to "work for a living": http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=183655 If you want to have a discussion about how Democrats are evil and abortion is murder, fine: go right ahead. But don't try to paint this as a discussion of social justice, because you already abandoned that topic. To make a comment like "I am not trying to stir another long debate" when you ask a loaded question like this is why people say things like this about you: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5183661&postcount=93 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5183653&postcount=92 .
Yeah, right. Just as you were "baffled" when you were called out for talking from both sides of your mouth in the other thread, you're being dishonest here. Unless you are perfectly brain dead, or so naive as to beggar the imagination, which I don't put aside as a possibility, you know very well that discussing that topic here guarantees "stirr(ing) another long debate." If anyone else wishes to invest, yet again (this topic has been thrashed about in D&D countless times), their own time in such a discussion, go right ahead. I'll pass. Why don't you do a search for one of those several threads, pick one, and bump it? It would save everyone a great deal of repetition.
Religion and politics are two different things and if you think that one political party embodies all that is Christian and the other embodies everything that isn't, you are sadly mistaken. The fact is that if you support one party, they're going to do things that are odds with your religion. This is unavoidable. Only a fool deludes himself into thinking that everything his party does is completely in line with the Bible. And all too often I see people whose political views shape their biblical views instead of the other way around. FWIW, I'm a pro-life liberal, though I completely understand the other side and disagree with the "life begins at conception" mantra.
ok, this is my problem with people like you: you care about the fetus so damn much, but what happens after the child is born? what if you got your wish and abortion was outlawed. what if all these poverty-stricken, low-income women are forced to give birth to children they don't want? then we'll see you pounding your fists at all the "welfare mothers" who take and take and take from the government and have more and more babies. are you willing to financially help these kids through taxes? cause, just so you know, a lot of "wealth distribution" goes toward "lazy" people who have a lot of kids and have no financial means to take care of them. should they be given up for adoption?? are you prepared to see a huge influx of kids who need to be adopted? are you going to support gay adoption so those kids have a better chance of being wanted? please do not legislate morality.
You can always tell the people that start with a political position and then justify it through their faith, as opposed to the people who start their faith and build their political views upon that.
This argument could just as well be used to kill a near-term fetus of a poor family or even a to kill a new-born baby of such a family. Somehow, it needs to be established that the intrinsic moral value of the fetus early in a pregnancy is less than that of a near-term fetus or a new-born. This isn't so easy to do. Oh, and I'm not Christian.
cml750, based on your position on abortion, I sincerely hope you are using some serious birth control. It would not be prudent nor progressive for our species for you to reproduce.
I will state that I am a Christian (because of Him not me) and I pro-life but here is my answer to the OP. I wish there was a party or even person that followed the scriptures 100% but since I can't even do that 100% of the time, I guess looking for that in others people or groups may be a stretch. Sometimes we must choose between the lessor of 2 evils and what is worse for one instance may not be the same for another instance.
Under. OP is a coward. He'll get called out for the hypocrite he is and then run away, saying he's too "busy" to continue. Again.
