Magazine Names Chris Rock America's Funniest Man NEW YORK - He's not on television regularly anymore, but Entertainment Weekly has judged Chris Rock (news) to be the funniest man in America. The 38-year-old comedian is now on a stand-up concert tour, which will culminate in an HBO special. "Watching Rock in 2004 — 21 years into his comedy career — is like watching a great prize-fighter in peak condition," the magazine said. Comedy Central's Jon Stewart (news) was second on Entertainment Weekly's list of the 25 funniest Americans, and Will Ferrell (news) came in third. Larry David (news), Dave Chappelle, Ellen DeGeneres (news), Bill Murray (news), Jim Carrey (news) and Jack Black (news) also were praised by the magazine. And here's a Top 10 list David Letterman isn't going to like: He was No. 11. Of course, it might make him feel better to know Jay Leno wasn't mentioned at all.
Chris Rock has excellent delivery. I saw 10 minutes of Chapelle and was laughing hard too. I heard he plays a blind black guy who is a racist, which sounds pretty funny.
Jamie Foxx should be right there at the top. His HBO special "I Might Need Security" was the funniest stand up I've seen in a long time.
if i run across chris rock's bigger and blacker on hbo, the next hour of my life has just been filled. i've seen it about 10 or 11 times and still laugh every time. jon stewart and will ferrell are definitely good choices for the next two spots.
I remember the first time I heard Chris Rock in college. My roommate got me to download his stand-up from Napster. It was about 50 minutes long, and I think I wasn't laughing for less than a minute during that whole time. I was laughing so hysterically that my roommate almost regretted telling me about him. You know, I believe Chris Rock once said that he thinks Conan O'Brien is the funniest guy(or something to that extent), as Conan had to do many more shows and jokes than he does, as a stand-up. I can sort of see that. Conan O'Brien might seem 10 times as funny if he didn't have to deal with meeting the quota for # of shows per year.
I hate lists such as this. It's too broad. Perhaps Rock is the funniest stand up comedian, I'll argue for that. Great delivery, very good feel for his audience. However, for sheer comic genious he has nothing on Larry David. I mean come on, Seinfeld, and now his HBO show. Also, right up there after Larry David is Christopher Guest.
i had no idea chris rock was touring. so i guess he'll have a new cd coming out with the hbo special? if he's got new material i can't wait to hear it. his last 2 specials are some of the best of all time.
I like Jon Stewart, but the true genious of the Daily Show comes from Stephen Colbert and Rob Corddry. Pablo Francisco and Mitch Hedberg are good, but they haven't changed their act in a loooooooooooooong time. If you ever saw Pablo Francisco on Mad TV, practically all of his skits were just visual representations of his jokes like the hispanic girlfriend and the guy who does the voice overs for movie trailers.
