BTW, these two will go head-to-head tonight on ESPN. Should be pretty exciting.
I voted for Chris Paul because until Deron Williams denounce his Jazz affiliation (i.e. skip out of Salt Lake city the first chance he gets) he will always be inferior the Chris.
Chris Paul. We shouldn't underestimate that steals/turnover ratio. And just looking at FG% is misleading in this case, because Paul gets to the line far more and is a better free throw shooter.
The Jazz made the right choice by taking Deron Williams instead of Chris Paul. Both are great talents but this season Williams has proved himself. He is a much bigger, much stronger, sturdier player and that will help him in the long run, as long as he keeps in great shape. Paul is quicker and flashier.
historically, big guards who can shoot and post up have been more durable than small, quick gaurds thats why d-will is better (trade jon luk for dwill...make it happen CD)
williams has the benefit of being surrounded by great players in Utah. Paul doesn't have nearly the talent. I'd take Paul
Ditto. Williams is the most impressive young PG in the league and he has more upside than Chris Paul. Both players are great young PGs, but I would still pick Williams.
quoted for truth. But it looks like this is a very controversial discussion, both seem even on the surface.
gotta go with chris paul. hes got virtually the same stats on a much worse team. his best post man (david west) has been out most of the year and the best shooter on the team (peja) has hardly played.
Don't just look at stats, watch them play. If you want stats, when Boozer was out, Williams stepped up his performance and averaged 20/9.5. If Williams had lesser teammates he would average more points than he does now. Forget their rookie seasons, where Paul blew Williams away. That still lingers in everyone's mind but it shouldn't. Williams did what great players do and learned from his rookie season. He lost weight and got quicker and as a result, his assists have DOUBLED to over 9 per game. He's a completely different player now, which is a great sign. I've always believed that improvement from their rookie to 2nd year is a good way to grade NBA players. Obviously both of them need to work on shooting 3 pointers. I realize Paul has been injured and that may have prevented him from making a big step this season. We may never know for sure. But I betcha next season, Williams improves again and gets mentioned with the top PGs in the game. But he's gotta keep his weight down and maintain the quickness AND work on his 3 point shooting.
Concern of Deron Williams being out of prime condition again is enough of a ding for me to go with Chris Paul. Chris Paul seems more natural and fluid in his play, and seems to make his team better (not that Deron Williams doesnt, judging by the Jazz's record obviously). No doubt to me if the Hawks took Chris Paul they'd be firmly entrenched in the playoff hunt.
I noticed that some of you keep characterizing the Hornets as a "bad team"...I disagree. They're a good team that had to deal with a lot of injuries, and STILL have a chance to make the playoffs. I think of all the teams seeded 8th and below in the West, the Hornets are the best. I still think they will make it. Oh, and there is another Williams kid that's going to be pretty good as well, he plays for the NJ Nets. If I was running the NJN, I would trade Kidd this off season for a young center with some upside, and that would give Marcus the chance to develop into the position as a starter. Then, I would keep Carter for marketing purposes as the team moves to NYC and tries to win over some new fans; I just don't think fans would be as thrilled about the prospect of paying big bucks to watch Jason Kidd play, but I would be more inclined to do so to watch Carter play.
I'd take Deron Williams if I were to build a team. Williams has a much better outisde shot and is a better defensive player than Chris Paul. He's also big and strong for a PG, which will make him last for many years in the league. On the other hand, Chris Paul is one of the few players that I'd pay to watch in the NBA. These two will be the best two PG's in the league in the not-too-distant future (i.e. when Steve Nash starts to decline).
