Marc Stein tweeted earlier that the Clippers may be interested in trading Chris Kaman due in large part to how well DeAndre Jordan has played of late. Kaman struggled alongside Blake Griffin in the 10 games he's been able to play, and the offense-defense tandem of Griffin-Jordan would seem to make more sense than offense-offense with Griffin-Kaman. We're well aware of the Rockets' need at his position, so should the Rockets try for Kaman?
Do better? How many centers out there can give us 18-9 with a couple of blocks per game? He's making $11M this season and then $12M next year before coming off the books, so if he turns out to be a bust then his contract makes him a fairly attractive trade chip next year. He has had some injury issues but is clearly a better option than anything else the Rockets run out there at the position.
This is a good point. I also think another possible target is Dalembert. But both these guys are the "strikeout" type trade, last result. Morey is looking to hit a homerun and Kaman or Dalembert would not classify in that category. However they may be a nice addition to improve the roster. I personally would prefer Dalembert over Kaman as I think his talents would better serve this team. Kaman's health scares me as well. Again though, these are the types of players he can wait until the deadline to aquire should nothing better become available to us.
Kaman is better than anything we have, that said, a move for him has band aid written all over it. I don't think he is much of a rim protector, he doesn't really fit, we need a defensive shot blocking center....that alone makes this a 50 win team. DD
The Clippers own their first-round pick in 2011. They also have a first-round pick from Minnesota that is top-10 protected this year and unprotected after that. Potentially valuable asset there.
