What do you guys think about this situation? I think the Titans organization is horrible in the way they treat their high profile players, I'm glad they left Houston. CJ agreed to play last year for ~2mil after being promised he would get a new deal this year. Now he is slated to make 800k this year with no new deal. I hope he doesn't budge.
New coach, ultra-short offseason, just lost two prominent faces....Titan front office is idiotic not getting him into camp asap. Being cheap and keeping him off the field is begging for a hamstring or achilles injury week 1, which would tank their season immediately.
I believe Chris Johnson has all the leverage. Titans offense isn’t great with him so imagine the offense without him. No way he should risk injury for a 900k base salary. He will get at least 15 million guaranteed his next contract.
Titans haven't changed the way they treat their franchise type players, and I hope CJ continues to hold out. They are going to be a disaster this season.
I can't believe he agreed to play for 2 million last year after his monster season 2 years ago. He should be the highest paid RB easily.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AlrTJAOE8rtS7NxhFBX4PzBDubYF?slug=ap-titans-johnson he is about to be the highest paid RB in the league.
I'll pull a katie here and say that this is the right move by CJ. He needs to hold out as long as he can, and get what he deserves. Straight cash homie!
Might be hard for him to get insurance like that or the premium might be outrageous. I can't ever fault an NFL player for holding out.
Not counting the lockout, the owners don't rip up contracts. They exercise provisions in the contract. If the players don't like getting cut, make sure all money is guaranteed. Granted the player will be payed less because Football Owners have seen what has happened to Carlos Lee. With the lockout, I do think the owners don't have the moral high ground.
the owners have their recourses and the players have theirs. it's silly to make some sort of judgment on a guy who is just trying to protect his career. if owners don't want holdouts, just refuse to deal with them.
This is true in terms of average Joe.... but we're talking about a guy who could earn more money then 99.5% of humanity. He can live a simple life, for the rest of his life, and his son's life, and his grandson's life, and great grandson's life.... you get the picture. His future will be fine along with his family for generations, if they live smart. Look at him, he has everything in the world at his fingers. It's silly to me to support a guy not participating in team activities (which helps grow and condition his skills/body) because he wants more money. He agreed to a deal. Decided his production outmatched his current deal. So he is whining until a new deal is made. It's fine if you think of it as a good employee at a retail store. You should get a raise for doing a good job. But at the begining of the job, a date/time is arranged for when you need to negotiate a new deal after you fulfill your current deal. Rewarding a guy for doing that? I'm not behind that.
Depends on the situation. Runningbacks have some of the shortest careers. And Chris Johnson is one of the best. He's not exactly overpaid.
