I've never been a big Soundgarden fan but I love Rage!

I used to think highly of Soundgarden back in the early 90s (I liked all of those Steve Alibinesque sort of bands: Mudhoney, Tad, Screaming Trees, Skin Yard, etc.) but I never really got into 'Rage'. Preachy Native American Rap just wasn't my forte.

In fact, this just seems like a cashin. Actually, wait... Chris Cornell did that Hungry song.

I love Rage and I love Soundgarden. Soundgarden was like the only grunge Seattle band I liked back in the day and I was sad when they broke up. I've always loved Rage and I know that this new band will definitely sound different.

Nothing Tom Morrello is a part of is a bad thing, so I'm looking forward to this.

I'll be interested to see how they'll end up sounding. Replacing a rapper with an awesome vocalist should change their work drastically.

Let's get this straight:
Cornell is not joining Rage. Rage is not backing up Chris Cornell.

Chris Cornell and the remaining members of RATM are forming a NEW band.

That said, I'm excited as hell. Cornell is one of my favorite songwriters. His vocal ability is pure bliss. Not too many people can put as much emotion and power in a song as he can.

He left the band earlier this year. He claimed that he and the band were no longer on the same page anymore. Supposedly this has been going on for a while now.

Yeah, they had a lot of difficulty getting along. That's why it took so many years for them to put out a new album, they couldn't stand each other.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Zack Leaves Rage Against The Machine

After nine years and three politically charged albums, frontman Zack De La Rocha has announced that he has left Rage Against The Machine.

The singer issued a statement on Wednesday blaming the split on the group's inability to work together collectively.

"I feel that it is now necessary to leave Rage because our decision-making process has completely failed," De La Rocha said in the statement. "It is no longer meeting the aspirations of all four of us collectively as a band, and from my perspective, has undermined our artistic and political ideal.

"I am extremely proud of our work, both as activists and musicians, as well as indebted and grateful to every person who has expressed solidarity and shared this incredible experience with us."

Responding to Zack's statement, Rage guitarist Tom Morello told MTV News Wednesday afternoon that he agrees that "the decision-making process has broken down for everyone. I have no hard feelings, and we wish Zack well with his [solo] project. But everyone is excited about the 29 tracks that [Rage] have in the can, and some of it will be released in the fall."

That quote refers to an album of live material as well as covers of Cypress Hill, Devo, Bob Dylan, and Minor Threat (see "Rage Against The Machine Covers Dylan, Devo, Cypress Hill") that the band had been working on prior to the split. Epic Records has said that it is saddened by the news, and that no release date has been set for that material.

For some time now, De La Rocha has been working on a solo album with hip-hop artists such as DJ Shadow, Company Flow, and Amir from the Roots (see "Rage's De La Rocha Ready To Start On Solo LP"). That album is also expected to be released by Epic Records.

The news comes near the end of a tumultuous year for the band. The group had planned to co-headline a tour with the Beastie Boys, but that project fell apart when Beastie Mike Diamond was injured in a bike accident. Rage then twice canceled and rescheduled shows in San Francisco that were to be recorded for a live album. The group then saw a minor riot break out after its performance outside the Democratic National Convention in August.

However, one of the band's more notorious moments may have come at last month's MTV Video Music Awards, when an inebriated Tim Commerford -- the group's bassist -- climbed the stage set and had to be removed from the venue by security. Sources close to the band say that the incident angered De La Rocha (who walked out of Radio City Music Hall afterward), and indicate that it may have snapped the singer's working relationship with the band.</font>

Rage Against the Machine and Ex-Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell will re-enter the studio next week to continue making the "groundbreaking" music that they caution fans may never hear.

Rage's Epic Records spokesperson stressed that Cornell and the group, who recorded three songs together earlier this year, are "just going in to jam" and that it's too soon to speculate on what the sessions may mean for the future.

But bassist Timmy C. told San Jose, California, radio station KSJO-FM on Tuesday that he, guitarist Tom Morello and drummer Brad Wilk have formed a new group with Cornell, which will not be called Rage Against the Machine, a representative for the station said.

Morello recently described the group's first sessions with Cornell as "groundbreaking and fantastic."

"He's one of the greatest singers and songwriters in rock history, and jamming with him was off the hook," Morello said at the Grammy Awards last month. "We were just making up new, exciting rock. ... Chris Cornell is definitely not the singer of Rage Against the Machine, but the music that we made in the couple of days that we jammed together was really groundbreaking and fantastic, and was so exciting. He's amazing."

The guitarist said he and his two Rage bandmates have been jamming with several musician friends recently, but he declined to give any names. Singer Zack de la Rocha left the group in October."</font>
