Chosing between 2 new digital cameras, need some input..

    Guys, it's come down to 2 completely different choices than the ones I made before...One of these:

    Nikon Coolpix 4300 @ $520.5
    - 16MB Memory Card
    - 4MP

    or

    Canon Ixus 400 @ $575.3
    - 32MB memory Card
    - 4MP


    I'd love some input on these 2 please, thx....

    I bought the S400 (that's what it's called in the states) for my wife, and she loves it.

    It takes great pictures, and it's smaller than a deck of cards.

    Sane, I just bought a Coolpix 4300 on the net for $350. And two 256's for another $100.

    My wife is the photographer, though, so I haven't played with it, but she absolutely loves it.

    I don't think you can go wrong with, either, but you can definitely get a better price.

    I did a quick look and found the Coolpix for $376 (shipping in the price) at two different dealers. Note: some dealers price down their cameras then price up their peripherals (like memory). I bought the camera and memory from two different sites.

    I bought the Nikon 4500 a year ago and love it. Of course I don't know squat about photography other than "yeah, that looks good, let's keep that image" and "oh man, screwed up on that one... let's delete it".

    I photography friend of the wife turned me on to www.dealcam.com. It isn't a store; it's a pricing engine specifically for cameras and peripherals.

    check it out. that's where I found my 256MB compact flash for $50 each.

    cool....I'll do it. My only caution on buying camera stuff is that it has one of the biggest grey markets around. Try to make sure that whatever you buy is covered by the manufacturers US warranty....as opposed to places that claim they'll warranty the product themselves.

    Also, if you bargain with CDW as a business they will usually sell you a camera at cost. I got the 995 coolpix for like $450 doing that. They'll do it for you in good faith.

    Well, I found that the problem I'd have is with warranty. Only one of those sites comes with warranty, and that warranty is only valid in the States.

    I'm living in the U.A.E., so that would be a problem. Also, some of them don't even ship stuff outside the States.

    As for the price, now that I look at it, I'll definitely try even more stores, because I'm almost positive I can get a better price.

    I'd love to hear some comparisons from you guys. What's the difference between the Canon S400 and the Nikon 4300?
