Okay, so I am pulling a tinman here... Does this seem familiar? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/G67Nm6OpgBw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/G67Nm6OpgBw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> My girlfriend earlier tonight asked why we are clutch city. I stumbled on this video to try and explain to her what we are. It seems like our Rockets of today are going through what those Rockets went through. Choke City? I think not. We will get our defensive identity, we will show the maturity to keep a lead, we will get there. 0-2? We've been here before. True, thats a playoff turnaround and this is just the regular season, but still...
Vernon Maxwell was our Artest. I dont think Martin is gonna all of the sudden go mad Maxx on anyone soon. See Battier morphing into Robert Horry? Hakeem is Yao? Hard as nails Vs brittle feet? I dont think so.
We've been here before? We, the fans, may have, but this team isn't. This team has no connection to - or recollection of - the mid-'90s Rockets. Kyle Lowry was in grade school when the Rox were champs last. Do you think he - or Yao or K-Mart or any other player - thinks to himself, "Yeah, times are tough now, but we'll reach back way deep and find it in us to win the way we did against the Suns in the playoffs in 1995"? Come on, man! It's cool to have faith and be a loyal fan - I'm still optimistic about our chances to go deep in the playoffs this year - but referring to some long-lost era that has nothing to do with the current team is a little... um, unnecessary.
Bad analogy. We're 0-2 in the season, not playoffs. We don't have our backs against the wall. Also add the fact that this current team has no connection whatsoever to the championship teams. I think I get what you're trying to do but it doesn't work here. The past is the past.
i like your idea...but its just flawed in the superstar area...i think we can still still tear this season apart tho, so i'm with you!!
Cavs went 0-2 with Shaq in the beginning of the season. They finished with 61 wins. IT'S GOING TO BE ALRIGHT. hopefully
The Heat lost to the Celtics and then the Cavs beat the Celtics the next night. Sh** happens. It's time to look forward to Denver.
holy crap, please stop comparing this team to that championship squad who had the best player in the league.
Maxwell played strong defense for the Rockets, but his offensive contributions somehow seem forgotten. Maxwell did score 30 points in a quarter and is the ONLY ROCKET to have ever done so. Plus Vernon jacked up alot of shots like Kevin Martin.
yeah people forget that it's an 82 game season and that anything can happen. all props for telling the true story of Clutch City. A story that needs to be told every year like A Charlie Brown Christmas.
They are both mentally unstable from time to time, comparision on what they did for the Rockets ends there, 2nd round isn't a great accomplishment.
Exactly. Hakeem has a great attitude and so the does Yao but Hakeem was fearless with his attitude. I know Yao is not Hakeem and i'm not comparing their games. I'm looking at the way and the mentality behind how they physically attack opponents on the basketball floor. Yao is tenative and tends to look as if he isn't really trying to make his opponent look too bad. I don't know if it's because he is slow or his nature is so. Yao was so happy to get out the first round... a little to happy imo. Hakeem was on a whole different level in that regards and watching him receive that MVP really reminded me of how great and brave of a person he is.
Clutch City is all about the Rockets...but Choke City is not...despite the 56 point font headline after we lost that 20pt lead in the 4th q. Choke City is more about the Astros and Oilers. The Rockets never actually Choked ever...in Hakeem's era and before. I dare anyone to say I'm wrong. The Suns game was just one loss to Hakeem and Rudy. It's like saying Roger Federer choked in the 2nd set of the Wimbledon Finals. Uh, ok.
