That was simply an incredible performance by the former No. 1 offensive recruit in America. I have been waiting all season for a game like this from the Horns against a top 25 opponent. The talent has been there all yr, it was just about coming forward and taking advantage of it. The announcers were talking about Simms not taking a red shirt; I hope he doesnt as the Horns have the makings of a major national title contendor with a little more experience. It feels good to bleed burnt orange. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Simms was okay. It was the Texas receivers that came through today. Simms will probably need a few years to develop. It's not being said often, but I think Applewhite is the better quarterback, leader, and decision-maker. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
This was what I called! Simms huge day! So fun to actually be there- I sat two sections away from the A&M students and our section gave 'em hell all day! The receivers were good, but you have to remember we ran up 4 touchdowns (27 pts) in the 3rd quarter into a fierce wind. Some of those deep balls and reads Chris made I simply don't think Major could have. Major was considered a better decision maker and leader. He doesn't have better skills overall, but because those two areas are so important he's been the starter. If Simms can consistently play like he did today, where he had the total package in terms of being a great quarterback, he should be our starter. Hook 'em!!!!! 43-17!!! 43-17!!! We meet again. I'm not sure I understand why Montan^^^Applewhite would not have made the same reads and throws as Simms. Both are about the same height and strength. At this point (and in the interest of fairness), I would rather see Applewhite starting. "Overall skills" not-withstanding, until Simms learns to throw the ball away before the sack and subsequent loss in field position, Montan^^^Applewhite is the better quarterback, leader, and decision-maker. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
Major is 6'0. Simms is 6'5. Simms has much more physical tools. No questioning that. The sacks Simms took he really had no choice- if he threw it away it would have been intentional grounding. Major is a guy who is a big time winner, and I'm thankful for all he's done. But Simms is so blessed with physical talent that it's unreal. What I meant was that going into a fierce wind against a good defense, I'm just not sure Major physically has the arm strength, mobility, or whatever else it takes to do what Chris did yesterday. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Applewhite is not Montana, not even close. Chris was able to hit wr's in stride, so they were able to make big plays. He wasn't just "ok," he was very good. He has a pretty accurate arm and a bright future. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
Not yet. Give him time in the NFL, a front-line like the 80s 49ers, and a few SuperBowl appearances and then we can start the comparison. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
Blue, I love the Montana / Applewhite, Simms / Young comparison. Of course, Applewhite isn't Joe and Simms isn't Steve. Not even close. But it's a good comparison, because here we've got the gritty vet who leads the team to two conference championship games, versus the younger phenom who's better at every physical "tool": speed, height, arm strength. Chris Simms was incredible vs. A&M. I just hope his performance doesn't cause Mack Brown to go back to the rotating QB system. It does both of these kids a disservice. ------------------ "Don't blame me. I think I voted for Gore." -Florida bumpersticker
You're the self-described President of the Jason Collier Fan Club, but you doubt Major Applewhite's talents?! Phil Simms in the stands not-withstanding, Chris Simms hasn't done enough to warrant starting over Applewhite. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it.
I would be shocked if Major is a starting qb in the nfl. I would be shocked if Simms wasn't. But, I'm rooting for both guys to make it. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
I have one sentence. If the game was played at Kyle Field, the Aggies win. Enough said ------------------
If I had to choose between Applewhite and Simms as the Texans starting Qb Id have to be a real idiot to choose Applewhite. Now, as far as college goes, sometimes you have to win to lose. I still think SImms should have been starting mroe games this season for developement purposes becuase I think Simms will have a better shot of leading UT to a national championship next year, and the experience would have come in handy. ------------------ Remember.... Gotta love those Aggie excuses. Keep 'em coming!!! HOOK 'EM!!!! ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Last year isn't this year. We are a much different team. Happen to check out who caught those 3 TD's yesterday? 3 freshmen. They weren't on the team last year. It was our freshmen receivers that did so much damage against you guys this year, and they weren't on the team last year. Also, Simms had never started a college game in his life before the game at Kyle Field last year. Somehow I think it's hard to be prepared when you've never started a college game in your life and you are told about an hour before kickoff that you will have to go. If the teams were the same, valid argument. But they aren't. Might also want to take into account how almost half of our team had been food poisoned before the game as well. We are a completely different team now. Just be ready for the #1 Texas Longhorns to come into Kyle Field at 10-0 next November and stomp the Ags again. Keep the excuses coming!!! Uh, last year Chris was a 18 year old freshman from Jersey starting his first college game in front of 80,000 drunk rednecks. We all know the circumstances of last year's game, let's not bring it up. UT is a better team, that's just the way it is. It gets worse from here, Brown is likely to bring in another top 5 recruiting class. RC is recruiting unknown "sleepers" from small towns, we'll see how that goes. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
Quick question....How many of you would like to see Simms in a Texans uniform?Though I'm not sure of the timing of his graduation but shouldn't it be right around the time when the Texans are coming into the league with the first pick?Would he be worthy of the first pick?Sorry if I got in between y'alls hook'em horns/gig'em aggies debate but I was just wondering. ------------------ Mitch Meluskey...The real Slim Shady
