Once again I say the UN is dead. AP News Alert The Associated Press Friday, March 21, 2003; 10:56 AM Jacques Chirac says France will not authorize a U.N. resolution allowing the United States and Britain to administer postwar Iraq. © 2003 The Associated Press
What good is veto power, if they can't wave it around, use it, and show how France is a power in this world. I'm proud of myself for keeping a straight face while reading that out loud.
Freak, LOL !!! All this does is again weaken the UN....if Chirac wants to do this..fine, we will handle it with the Coalition of the willing. No spoils for you Chirac. DD PS. Hey, Chirac, I guess you failed to see that Ricin that was found in France...MORON !!
Timing, Maybe from Iraq, maybe not. But if he thinks that Terrorists will stop just because he is supposedly standing up the the USA, thus weakening the UN he is mistaken. Chirac is the one that made the deal to build a nuclear reactor in Iraq, his hands are hardly clean. DD
What does this matter? The US provided Iraq with Anthrax. The US provided Iraq with intelligence to use WMD on Iran. The US stood by siltently as Iraq gassed the Kurds. The US allowed the Kurds and Shia's to be massacred by Iraqi attack helicopters days after the Gulf War cease fire. And? Just more game playing about who's run interference for Saddam?
I didn't mention this when I saw it, but Bush reportedly recently told Chirac in a phone call thast he would neither forgive nor forget what they did to us in the UN. I can't remember the link - saw it a couple of weeks ago - but I remember that it seemed internally consistent... I think that we are going to shut France out of postwar Iraq. I hope we do.
Timing, Why don't you brush up on your history. You seem to have taken the anti-US version of that particular episode in history hook, line, and sinker. Yes, the anthrax was obtained from a US company. The American Type Culture Company. Did we help them weaponize it? No. Did that company sell biosamples that could be used for WMD to other countries? Yes. Was it difficult for anyone with university letterhead to get? No. Did we know that Iraq was going to engage in WMD attacks against the Iranians? No. Did we give them intelligence to use in their war against the Iranians? Yes. Did we give them that intelligence with the knowledge that they would use it to strike their enemies with WMD? Only in unsubstantiated conspiracy theories. Did we have anything to do with his war against the Kurds? No. Did we begin to break off relations with him after he began to use WMD against the Iranians in 1988? Yes. I know that it is fashionable to think that we are as guilty as the French, Russians, Chinese, and Germans, but that is not the case. The fact of the matter is that we never intentionally helped them in any of their WMD programs, whereas these countries are all guilty of doing so. We are also not guilty of busting sanctions to aid the Iraqis in their weapons programs, whereas these countries are. You cannot honestly equate our actions with theirs.
Anti-US conspriracy theories? Everything I said is completely factual and you know it. It's pretty hypocritical for pro-war Americans to wrap themselves in the flag and talk about France when we have plenty of blood on our hands in regards to Iraq.
Timing, I never said our hands were clean, but at least we seem to be willing to try to fix our mistakes. DD
War isn't the only way to fix this mistake and that's the issue around the world, not just with France. In case you haven't noticed the vast majority of people around the entire world are against this war. Does that count for anything or should we just bash France some more?
Factual? Sort of... The American Type Culture Company. Not the US government. Not "the US". Somewhat misleading, to say the least. Now the French companies that aided Saddam are government owned and directed, so... The US provided them with satellite intelligence. We did not hand them photoas and say, "OK, go gas them now..." That is pure, unadulterated speculation. What is a fact is that after they began using WMD, we began to break off relations with them. Look that up. What, you mean we diodn't go to the UN and pass a resolution calling on them to stop gassing people? Well guess what? No one else did either. Did we express our discomfort with what they were doing? Yes, we did. And as I said, after they started gassing people, we started to withdraw our support - that is a mater of hisatorical record that the conspiracy theorists typically ignore. Should we have done more? Hindsight is 20/20. We're doing something now. 100% correct on this one. Probably the second greatest muistake made during that period. We should be ashamed of that one. But on the whole, your "facts" are misleading either in their content or in your neglect of context.
