I'd been meaning to post this thread a while back. I discovered upon my last visit to Htown about 3 weeks ago that my fav. chinese restaurant- Hunan Empress in Sugarland had closed down. I would like to know what you lot recommend for good chinese food(Not buffets) in Sugarland and the Houston area in general. What places and why you think they're the best.
    Thanks.

Chinese Cafe is pretty good but it's not typical "Americanized" Chinese food. There are three locations that I know of, one on 290 and 43rd, Richmond @ Post Oak and the original one is on Bellaire in that mass of Chinese restaurants way down there.

good chinese food in houston..too many to list..droollll

In SugarLand the bulk of the chinese restaurants are on hwy 6 around the welfarm region...then theres chinatown on bellaire/beltway 8 region...and theres prolly good chinese places in downtown as well but im not too familiar with that region..As long as you eat in these regions..u cant go wrong.

I've always liked Golden Hunan on Memorial between Shepherd and Wescott.

King Bo II and Jade Garden in Sugar Land is really good. Jade Garden is more authentic chinese food while King Bo II has both authentic and amercanized food.

expect a bashing for calling that "authentic".

Oh yeah that is my home away from home. They had a location at Bellaire and Ranchester for years that we would go to. I think the name of that place was Hunan Plus, but we always just called it cheap Chinese. Yantze is decent food and the prices are crazy. You can eat and tip for under $5.

I tried five spices after you recommended it a while back. I thought it was pretty good, but didn't like the hot and sour as much as tai pei. Now I live nowhere near either of them so I have to find a new spot.

Panda Garden on Elderidge in Sugar Land. Seriously. I know the owners and have been going there for years.

Don't, don't, don't go to the other one. The Elderidge one is MUCH better.

MadMax, if you haven't already, you have to try Tan's Hunan on Dairy Ashford @ Briar Forest. It's the closest I've found to NYC-level Chinese food in Houston (errr, the Memorial area, at least). (When I say NYC-level, I don't mean the fancy Chinese places but the regular ones.) The next best, IMO, is Hunan Emperor on Memorial @ Tallowood.

Agreed - I like the one on Richmond. Good and affordable. One thing I miss about living in Houston.
