Chinese President Hu Jintao meet Yao Ming in training

    At the basketball stadium, the president was attracted by the swift moves by the players of the men's national basketball team. He voiced concerns for star player Yao Ming who suffered a foot injury in February.

    "The whole nation is very concerned about your foot. How is it going now?" Hu asked the star center with the Houston Rockets.

    "It's okay," Yao replied. The NBA star played his second match after coming back from injury on Saturday in the eastern city of Hangzhou, scoring 16 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes against Angola.

    Hu told Yao he needed to be more careful in future training and matches.

    He expressed high hopes for the men's national basketball team, which also includes NBA stars Wang Zhizhi and Yi Jianlian.

    "We Chinese people pay lots of attention to basketball and expect your superb performance in matches. I hope you can show your best at the Games," Hu told them.

    I guess Arron Brooks would be a superstar on their scale.

    Yao should ask for vacation for next summer and the one after that！

    Although I am not a fan of AB. But yes, if Arron is in CNT, he would definately be the starting point guard.

    its a great honor for Yao, since Yao is so dedicated to CNT.
    Maybe they get to meet the U.S president next year, as the World CHampion

    I know right........what does he want Yao to do? petiton the NBA for a cushiony pillow area in the paint for when he lands on his gigantic frame?

    What's wrong? One can do both at the same time.
    He said he hoped them to show their best. It is more like a wish than a request. Some people will feel very bad if they do not show their best in a competetion and Yao is such a person.

    uhhhh...I'm 100% sure that the chinese president speaks english and I dont know anything about him. And I'm willing to bet that our president is probably the only president in the world that does not speak a second language :(

    You guys are crazy. I personally do not see anything wrong with the statement. "We Chinese people pay lots of attention to basketball and expect your superb performance in matches. I hope you can show your best at the Games".

    It is very common for Chinese people to encourage people to show their best in a game, in a test, in any competition. Actually, this means do not concern too much about the actual outcome, just show what you can do. I think President Hu really cares about Yao.

    To be precise, Chinese president does not speak English, the original Chinese report is:
    胡锦涛提醒姚明，平时训练时还是要多加注意。他希望中国男篮能够在北京奥运会的比赛上打出气势
    Hu Jintao ask Yao to be more careful in trainings. He hope that the Chinese National Men's Basketball Team show their heart/passion in the Beijing Olympic games.

    I think the word following Hu Jintao should be "asks" ,it's not simply a mistake of writting itself.Hu is just a single man,not a group is he?He should stand for a group ,but it's rediculous for a whole country to give a single athelet courage. Even though yao deserves that .
    Yao is an amazing person who earns 30m yet pockets just 2m per year.Yao should be elected president but I don't have the right to vote for him. :p

    Yao is the world's highest athlete.The big show is the world's bigest athlete.Mr Bush is the world's poorest president while mr Hu is the world's richest president .George is no more than a farmer,an idiot.How has i gained the courage to abuse him? he will no longer be president again after he is retiring from the white house back to his Dexas farmland. :D Bush should spend some of his retired time in Iraq,having a taste of the damned climate there. :eek: Hot,Dry. :eek:
