This article appeared today on sina.com. Interesting development.

In it, it mentioned China Peak Group Vice President Xu Zhihua will head for Houston June 25 to discuss about Shane Battier's future role with China Peak Group, as well as his July visit to China.

Shane Battier had signed a 3-year contract (worth US$ 4M) with China Peak Group, and one of the conditions is Shane Battier needs to remain a Rockets.

On top of the Battier's contract, China Peak Group had also some commercial endorsement deals with the Houston Rockets.

And China Peak Group had put together plans for Shane Battier's July visit to China.

So with all the recent trade rumours of Shane Battier, China Peak Group management felt that it will put all their past marketing effort into jeopardy, and thus wishes to meet with Houston Rockets management to find out the real situation, and talks them out of the trade, as one year after Shane Battier becoming their official spokesperson, there has been a sharp increase in sales for China Peak Group, and there are alot of Shane Battier's fans in China.

lol, coming to Houston for what? Hey they signed the guy which means they took a risk. I would not take that meeting if I were the Rockets.

I don't see why the Rockets would tell them anything.

Rockets may want to talk to PEAK because it still wants other chinese business to use endorsement deals to help lure players to Houston. Yes, Rockets don't have to and PEAK wouldn't be able to do anything, but next time Rox talks to a PA and ask chinese business to help, they are gonna hear "we want a no trade clause".

lol... talk them out of a trade? If some Chinese shoe sales are ever more important than Rockets team success, I'd give up on this franchise.

I don't think he meant it specifically about Chinese shoes sales. If merchandising is ever put before the good of the team, that would be a major bummer.

    pft....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaahhahahahahahahhahaha...

Like the weak Peak think it's going to stop a trade? They gambled on the player. It seems to have been a success for them for now, but they have ZERO say in what happens to Battier.

unless there is any truth to the artest trade, i wouldn't trade shane.

if that's the case then i would tell the CPG that we will keep shane for them, as long as they can offer our next FA target an endorsement deal.

the difference between signing in houston and signing other places is that you make more money in houston thanks to the endorsement deals from china.

Yes, because adidas being German makes all the difference

Chinese in adjective form refers to something pertaining to, or of origin in China. This shoe company is established in China. You're looking for something that is not there, and making yourself look rather foolish in doing so.

The shoe complany does have some leverage... they have an endorsement deal with the Rockets, indepedent of their Battier deal. Now, who knows what that endorsement deal amount it and what exact contract mechanism there is for them to play with... In any case, it wouldn't be the first time shoe companies have tried to influence NBA team personnoel (Sebatian Telfair, anyone?)

the Rox/Les dont have to listen....but he/they should...

    business is business...

and this is a area they can exploit....

the main reason Les wanted to spruce up the Rox game... wasnt for entertainment value, bring more people into the seats... bottom line...it was to make more money...

China/companies... have money to burn... (thanks partly....to the American consumer)

if Les has to fork out less money to sign some player... a perk being a endorsement deal(s)... from some CHinese Co. when you join the Rox...

then hes going to do it... since its not going to be his money...

Morey: I've got good news and bad news.
China Peak: Please hit us with the good news.
Morey: Battier is here to stay.
    China Peak: Oh thank God...
    Morey: Yeah.

    [long, awkward pause]

    China Peak: And the bad?
    Morey: Well, Yao's not.
