Yi Jianlian and Sun Yue had reunited with the China national team in Dallas in preparation for their exhibition games with USA Under 19 national team (July 1) and Dallas Mavericks summer league team (July 3) at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, before departing for Las Vegas to participate in the NBA Summer League.

WZZ used to outplay Yao. So...

Well anyway he doesn't play defense in CBA. If he just concentrates on offence, he is actually a pretty good player. He'd outplay quite some PFs in NBA on the offensive aspect. If only he could play some defense, that lazy and foolish bum.

I never liked him. Looks disinterested, has a closed-mind (stubborn), timid, and not too bright.

WZZ only outplayed Yao in Yao's early years in CBA. During the final 2-3 seasons before Yao came to NBA, he was unquestionably the most dominant player in the CBA, he dominated everyone in that league, including WZZ. Wang just happened to play in a very strong team.

Not the case with this Yi kid. At this stage, Wang is still a much better player and he outplayed Yi A TON, even for now. And Wang can't even find a NBA team which wants him.

That is why I don't understand the buzz here about Yi JianLian. It is true that Chinese players usually draw a lot of attention when they join the NBA because there are so few of them in the league and Chinese basketball market has huge potential. But they have to first show they can not only survive but also play well in the league. Not every Chinese NBA player will automatically become cash cow. WZZ wasn’t, neither was Menke Batttier.

From what I've seen, he wasn't all too great (at least in the NBA). But then again I didn't really see him much as he didn't really get that much floor time IIRC.

I remember when he scored his first basket... you could tell he was ecstatic hahaha

That's not really true, because during Yao's final year(s) in CBA, WZZ was already playing in NBA. So Yao didn't dominated WZZ in CBA. Not that he couldn't, but he didn't have the chance.

The buzz about YJL is because, the NBA teams have seen YJL play in various tournament and they like what they see. Even Del Harris had some pretty high praises for him. On the other hand, no one said anything fabulous about WZZ and Menke Bateer.

All the European soccer teams do. I have an authentic Chelsea soccer jersey with an Adidas logo on the front center and in huge bold letters SAMSUNG Mobile where you would think there would be a team name instead on the front. There's just a small round patch that says CHELSEA Football Club slightly over where the heart would be. The back is left empty, unless you have a player's name on it. That's how most of them are.

Like Reebok/Nike/Addidas doesn't put their logos on their jerseys. Also NBA's TV contracts and etc can support the team, but in an upcoming sport/league, you need all the revenue possible i.e. Nascar a while back.

Also I was at the game, it was pretty sweet. The US U19 kids impressed the heck out of me, Chinese team ...... not so much. Sun Yue didn't look at all, but Yi definitely showed why he is a lotto pick despite poor performances early on.

It's all about money in China. You find ads everywhere, even when you are peeing.

Before I even saw that they lost to a bunch of teenagers, I wondered why China wouldnt do so well in international ball with 4 NBA quality players on the, 5 if you include Bateer. I know they didnt have Yao and Yi apparently didnt start but, but couldnt they do a little better internationally?

    Box Score of the game:

    http://usabasketball.com/men/2007/07_mu19_exhbox1.html

It used to be that the Chinese guards were the strength of the team (this is way back), and the bigs sucked. Now it's completely opposite; we have the best center in the world and other decent bigs, yet our guards have trouble breaking a full-court press and turn the ball over when pressured.

In general, we have trouble with quickness, athleticism, and physicality, and this is especially bad with the guards.

Some of the USA U-19 team seem to be pretty highly regarded prospects, like Michael Beasley. Maybe they're a pretty good team.
