I did not see this posted. Disappointing news. He said it would have been a procedure that would end his toe problems.

    I wonder why?

I can foresee the rest of the replies in this thread being pissed off with Yao. Lol

man, does yao wanna play for china or the rockets? he cna't be fully committed to both b/c he's not going to be able to play at the highest level for both.

by delaying the surgery, he's gonna delay the rehab => less time to hone his skills => he'll still be the softest superstar next to dirk.

if he's delaying just to go play ball in china, that really really sucks. if he's cancelling it because they deemed he didn't need it then it's all good. we didn't even know the surgery was going to happen until after the season anyway.

i just want his knee healed completely and his speed back.

He did not, as his toe nail is recovering/growing back well, and the doctor said the surgery was not necessary.

He did not cancel or postpone it such that he can return and play for the national team. The doctor did not think his toe/nail required a surgery. His nail is growing back normally.

His knee (the fracture from that LA Clipper game in December) had also 100% healed, according to the doctor.

His right shoulder had some worn and torn but the doctor also did not suggest a surgery which could sideline him for 6 months.

Read those updates I posted 3 to 4 days ago on the "Official" thread of Yao Ming's 2007 Summer Activities.

How long is this summer going to be until the preseason training camp in October ?? 5 to 6 months long, right ?

How much time do you think Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon has for Yao Ming, if the working session and their schedule fit each other ? IMHO, I don't think it would require a whole summer for the 2 to work together...

I would say 2 to 3 days at most given both are so busy and have their own agenda of activities.

So either in early June before Yao Ming returns to China, or in July, when the national team comes back to USA for the summer league, with the latter time frame most probable, cos if I am not mistaken, it is usually in July that Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon will have time to come back to USA from Jordan to hold those clinics for Big Men.

FYI the Dream Shake, jump hook, drop step and other moves are highly complex and complicated maneuvers, consisting of several interconnected and interwoven steps and countersteps requiring not only physical skill but also mental cunning and sometimes subterfuge.

Yao will need 2 to 3 months, at least.

So does Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon have that luxury of 2 to 3 months to spare with Yao Ming ?

C'MON, don't be naive. I understand those are highly complex and complicated maneuvers......but even when Olajuwon taught it to the big men in his camp, it was usually 2 to 3 days or at most a week. I don't really think he can spend 2 to 3 months for hands-on training for Big Yao. It will be really some pointers/advice/guidelines/demonstration for Big Yao to grasp the fundamental, the form, the methodology......and the rest will have to rely on Big Yao himself training on his own. And that kind of training can be done in China or in US. Do you agree ?

unfortunately the only way yao is allowed to even play for the rockets is if he goes back and plays for china as well.

his operation wasn't nessesary so he cancelled it. he will work with dream before he leaves (i'm pretty sure that's how the scheduling works out).

He can come back during training camp and work out with the Dream when he's not practicing with the Rockets. Isn't that what Dream did with Moses Malone?

Who told you that? or you just figured out the "2 to 3 days or at most a week" thing in dream? Tell me how long time Olajuwon spent last summer to help Okafor, etc.

who cares if dream only has 2-3 days? those 2-3 days may be yao's best days ever as a bball player to learn from a top 3-4 center of all time.

but the fact that yao is not willing to dedicate his entire summer to himself and the team and getting better after a pathetic playoff series is disappointing.

he has to show dream that he wants to get better and willing to do ANYTHING and sacrifice EVERYTHING to get better. by doing this, he still shows the chinese national team is #1. he's willing to delay surgery to play for china. i doubt he would do that for the rockets.
