http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12289591/?GT1=7938 This is getting ridiculous and popping up everywhere, these cases have become the norm in modern society and people dont even bat an eye toward them anymore. I mean SIX months for sexual battery and statutory rape, are you freaking kidding me?!? And what do most of them do that get out? thats right get right back in the "game". So tell me do we take this too seriously? If we introduced more severe punishment (I think you know my stance), than I think we would see these crimes dissappear.
they should give way heavier sentences than that, like castration for 2x offenders. and the death penalty should definately be cast upon more frequently. heavy punishment should deterr crime.
Yea six months is ridiculous. it's just that jails have become overcrowded that some sentences have been shortened just to make things a little easier on the prison system. With that said.. The problem with sex offenders is that recidivism rates are always high regardless of the punishment. Look at studies on the issue. Sex offenders are incredibly likely to re-offend again and again. And each time they do, the odds grow that they'll do so one more time. Incarceration simply hasn't been a solution. Jails are already overcrowded and treatment and counseling for sex offenders is non-existant because of a lack of resources. I'm not sure what exactly the answer is. I would like to believe that there has to be some sort of counseling and therapy system that might rehabilitate these individuals. I know states have done some radical (and sometimes extremely questionable) tactics when it comes to sex offenders. Kansas, for example, at some point legalized chemical castration of sex offenders. Although I believe that was ruled unconstitutional. I know Vermont mandated a system of counseling and therapy for child sex offenders that did a decent job at reducing recidivism rates. Point is, more jail time isn't an answer. Sex offenses are much more psychologically driven and some extra jail time won't change the way they think or act. That being said, I don't know what is up with just 6 months. If I hand someone a bag of weed I'll be in jail longer than that.
6 months is a joke, im assuming u remember i was the one who said it taken to seriously, but that was in responce to someone who said rape should get you life, which in my opinion is to much rape is not the same as murder
Regarding Pamela Rogers - the city that it happened in is like less than 40 minutes from where I live. It was obviously big news in The Tennessean when she first got busted but I hadn't read about this latest thing (granted I don't read The Tennessean every day). But yea that was pretty incredibly stupid to contact this kid again through MySpace.
there is a huge difference between this type of statutory "rape" between consenting people and violent forced rape/ date rape. i think the punishment is really pretty fitting to the crime, but she was dumb for the myspace thing. well she was dumb for doing everything but the myspace thing was really dumb.
When you are dealing with kids in their early teens I don't think the difference is that great. The reason why it seems not so bad is because the victim is male. Many 14 yr olds (especially girls but some boys too) are easily led by adults in authority into doing things they wouldn't have chosen on their own -- things that seem "o.k" because a "responsible" adult is the one leading them. The damage in what may appear to be consent can still be considerable.
I know its wrong but damn, when I was that age I know I would have hit it. I can't imagine having problems because I bumped uglies with one of my hot teachers. It just seems different with boys.
I think the issue is more with how it effects the boys emotionally. But I completely understand what you're saying. I remember being very much attracted to two of my junior high teachers. One of my buddies had to come in after school was out for the year because he wrote "I want to 69 Miss Cunningham" on his math final in 7th grade.
I agree. I think that if I could have banged my 8th grade English teacher Mrs. Zamora, I would probably be a lot less uptight than I am today. EDIT: Sorry, I thought you were talking about the emotional effects of not banging the teacher. My bad.
"Rape me" - Nirvana BTW, before anyone else goes searching....her MySpace page has been cancelled or deleted.
She didn't get 6 months. She got 8 years. She was let out on probation, probably because the prosecutor thought she wouldn't re-offend (btw, anyone know what the recidivism of female sex offenders is like? I can't imagine it is as high as men's.). When it became plain that she would, he's pushing to have her in prison. This all seems sensible and fair to me.
btw, anyone know what the recidivism of female sex offenders is like? not to derailt his thread, never underestimate a horny woman
