http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020923/ap_on_re_us/videotaped_beating_36 Her lawyer claims that they haven't been able able to "review the evidence", so they entered a plea of not guilty in court. Frankly, I don't know how they HAVEN'T seen the evidence, considering every person on the country with CNN or internet access has been able to review it. Well, it's quite obvious they have no chance of winning a trial, so they'll probably plead down to second degree battery and she'll get probation and go to some parenting class.
I saw the video of her hitting her kid on the news last night. That had to be one of the most awful things I have ever seen and I know she will be found guilty. I really don't think they should have been showing that footage on TV.
B*tch said she just lost it and did not mean to hurt the kid (as seen on TV interview today). She came across as unsympathetic and mad that she got caught. I do not see how see can plead not guility, when on TV interviews she says she did it. Maybe she thinks that she is guility of a lesser offence??? TV reported that the kid not have bruises and was sent to child care services. Funny thing about not having bruises though.
How in the hell could you miss that? It's only been shown ad nauseum on every damn news channel.. I'm with Raven on this one, I got tired of seeing that vid after the first time. That's the media for ya tho.. Hope they throw the book at that pyscho b!tch!! No child deserves that treatment, especially at the age of 4..
Blown out of proportion..This is a media witch hunt. I bet someone else would be videotaped doing something of the exact same thing soon. I feel sorry for this woman having to endure what many do all the time to brat kids or kids who deserve thier behinds wore out. Did she go overboard? maybe a tad, but after seeing the videotape technically their is no proof the kid was beat because the video tape only shows her and briefly a figure of another person. The defense will use this and more than likely she will walk. While she admitted she did indeed spank the child its still has to be proved the child was beaten, the actual child in question, not some dark figure in a Suv.
Wanna know what my father said? "I didn't see anything wrong with that. The kid probably needed her ass whooped." I think thats pretty ignorant myself. It pisses me off when I see that vid of that lady beating that kid man. I wish i were in that parking lot at that time. That lady needs a good ass beating if you ask me.
Umm, maybe a tad overboard? Did you not see her yanking her kid back and forth by her hair, and then slap her in the face? You know yanking a small kid like that back and forth by the hair can cause brain damage? If you call that a tad overboard I'd hate to see what your whippings were like.
Although I do agree the media get out of control with some story's I believe this is something that should be placed in the spotlight. Now I believe there are some forms of discipline that sometimes have to be used such as time out or spanking this is something totally different. This women just victimized this child. I mean you don't go taking shots at the little girl's head and pulling her hair like that. Its totally uncalled for. Pulling her arm etc. it just makes you sick especially if you consider this might be going on in the household. The max for something like this is 3 years I believe. Well in my opinion this just isn't enough.
Oh please...It would be one thing if she was whoopin on the girl's butt...but she wasnt. I believe in spanking as a punishment of last resort, but what this lady(?) did is far worse than a spanking. Even if only 1/2 of the blows landed, thats far too many. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big believer in controlling your kids (just ask mine), but yanking hair and slapping faces and slappin upside the head is child abuse, period. Hopefully there is a father or other family relations that can take care of the girl while momma serves her well-deserved jail time.
Not too long ago, I was in an elevator with a man, and a mother and her child. The child asked for some icecream. The mom said no, the child asked again, and the mother slapped him. That made the child cry... when the child starting crying, the mother started slapping the kid left and right. I told her that if she continued, I'd have to call mall security. She gave me a dirty look, and got off the elevator. The man turned to me, and said, "you really shouldn't tell someone else what to do with their kids." I said, "well, I guess I really didn't help things and probably just made it worse for the kids." I mistook his meaning, he then said "no, you don't have the right to interfere with her child rearing." What the hell is that? I don't understand why some people think parents have some God-given right to screw up their children however they wish. The ability to fornicate and bear a child to term does not give someone the right/ability to abuse a kid. Personally, I think our culture in general grants too many rights to parents... but that level is ridiculous. I hope she goes to prison, and the child to a decent family.
better yet . .. how about a life time with the child She maybe in the system .. . why don't you go and adopt her and raise her in your own loving environment In our cry for justice. . . my worry is . .. what becomes of the child now motherless . .and in 'The System' Rocket River
A correction spanking on the rear and beating on the head are opposite things. One should be done in love for correction - this was just uncontrolled anger gone violent. And for what? The child wandered away and she had to be paged. Who is watching this child? It is the woman's responsiblity to make sure the child does not wander off - not a 4 year old's. I'd be happy to have my lost child found by the store employees given the alternatives.
A lot of people don't have cable. Or there are times when I go days at a time not looking at the news, it can just get depressing.
I'm thinking that "The System" won't have too difficult of a time finding a family that doesn't punch the kid in the face.
I'd rather have the kid in "The System" then getting tortured by their parents. There were professionals there who thought the kid might have been seriously injured when looking at the video. A tad overboard!? The woman BEAT the kid! There are people with kids who were sick to their stomach, a media witch hunt!? By the way the woman practically admitted she did it.
