In the probable event that Marbury or the like does not go to Minnesota (they're very conscious about his contract), Chicago should and probably will make a big push for Kevin Garnett. KG is from Chicago and is floundering in Minnesota while the team is financially not that profitable. It may be time for both to part ways. Chicago has stated in the past ( Bill Cartright) that they don't want more youth with their current roster and the fact that they have the NY Pick could be 1-5. They have VERY tradeable assets in Tyson Chandler, Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon and the pick which could be a pretty solid youth player. I think a trade of Chandler, Deng and the Draft pick (plus fodder to make the trade work) would do it as Minnesota would get a KG-Lite, a strong promising SF and a good rookie. I think the NBA needs KG in the playoffs and him plus Hinrich/Gordon and the bulls would be a nice team.
KG would be a good fit in Chicago -- this of course also depends on who they would have to give up when it was all said and done.
Maybe born there, but he went to high school in Chicago (Farragut Academy). He also loved the Bulls growing up "as a kid in Chicago"...not sure what age he moved there, but I think that's basically his adopted home?
It would be an excellent trade for both parties: the Bulls would re-join the NBA elite with Garnett and a bunch of talented youngsters with lots of potential around him and a successful winning franchise in the Bulls, while the Wolves would get a very exciting and talented bunch of players in return whom they can rebuild the franchise around, which is better than anything else any team like the Knicks or the Lakers can offer.
I dont know... Chandler and Deng arent exactly all star caliber players, atleast neither has shown they can perform at that level yet. And the pick? It most likely will end up being, either Trysus Thomas, Aldrige or Morrison... and none of them are certain to result in good players either. In fact they have as much a chance to resemble, Swift, Joe Smith & Mike Dunleavy as guys like Bosh, Okafor or Carmelo. I'm not sure how these three college players are going to turn out and Im not sure Minnesota does either... So the question becomes do you really want to trade a certain hall of famer for Deng, Chandler and Morrison etal. Because its very possible you end up trading Garnett for three mediocre players.
Chicago has a pretty good core group of guys...who will only get better i think they should keep their pick
It all depends on how the T-Wolves invision their rebuild. Nuclear meltdown or gentle glide? Garnett makes a boatload of money. You can either trade him for young talent or overpaid ex-All-Star junk. The trade with Chicago would make Minnesota the next Chicago, while being the key to Chicago making the next move. Either way, the next few years in Minny will be ugly.
I think the only way I would trade Garnett (from Minnes's perspective) is if I get Hinrich and Chicago's pick (plus cap fillers) OR Hinrich, either Chandler OR Deng and swap of the team's picks. That way I'm atleast certain I get a proven player in Hinrich and hope either Chandler OR Deng OR the pick also become good players. However in Chicago's view this might be asking for too much as I doubt they would want to trade Hinrich. The only other way I trade Garnett is if I could get a shot at Oden next year.
KG is indeed from South Carolina. He played 3 years of high school ball in South Carolina before moving to Chicago for his senior year. Minnesota has been pretty adament that they won't trade KG, so I don't see much chance of a trade happening.
why cant chicago wait for 2 years. with their youth developing, they could be one of the elite teams in the league.
yeah i think the time has come for iverson and garnett. and maybe even paul pierce to. and to be honest i would take any of them on this team...
If Chicago gets Garnett - and still has their round 1 pick in this year draft along with Hinrich and/or Ben Gordan... Wow. They are lucky.
Chicago has a lot of assets, but Chandler ain't one of them. At 10mil/yr his contract is a negative. His defense has not grown as expected; he has not developed much at all. A bigger market team would be interested but Minnesota can't afford to pay a role player that much. It's bad enough that they have Mark Blount. But Chicago's other pieces are nice. A likely top 3 pick, two good point guards, two developing SF's, Ben Gordon, and a mid-first round pick are more than almost any other team has. IMO, Chicago would give up so much for Garnett that their team would not be the same as this year's.
I think it's likely the Bulls will be trading Gordon this summer. Both sides are trying to be polite but Gordon clearly wants out and, with Hinrich as the PG starter, the Bulls will accomodate him. The Wolves asking price for KG will start with Gordon, the #2 pick, Deng and maybe more. This would be a steal for the Bulls because a rejuvenated KG paired with Hinrich, Nocioni, Chandler, etc. would instantly be a very good team. I'm not sure if this would be enough for Minny to make the trade. Bottom line is the best thing for Minny is to get KG happy and motivated by giving him some help and hope. McHale knows this which is why KG probably stays put.
Agreed that would be one of the main reason for trading Garnett. However I belive that the Clippers own Minnesotas first rounder next year so I cant see them rebuilding until after that draft.
Um, Ben Gordon doesn't have much more trade value than someone like a Tony Delk or Eddie House. Gordon is a decent guy to bring off the bench, but his game is very limited.
