NFL Network and FOXSports.com report the Redskins and Bears are discussing a trade that would send franchise player Lance Briggs and the No. 31 overall pick to Washington in exchange for the No. 6 pick.

A huge contract and a 25-spot jump in the first round. This would be an enormous price for Briggs, who some consider a "system player" in Lovie Smith's defense. It would also relegate Rocky McIntosh to the bench

I agree, this is a lot for the Redskins to give up, but Lance Briggs deserves all the credit in the world and I don't think it has as much to do with being a "system player" as some people suggest.

Aside from this potential trade, Chicago's offseason moves are laughable. I don't understand why they don't get criticized more when we (the Texans) are getting ridiculed for every move we make. Yes, there were some mistakes and the effects of Charley Casserly's missteps are still be felt, but Schaub seems to be very solid and more capable of taking us further than Carr could (based on his track record). Say what you will about the O-line - bottom line is that we didn't succeed on the field, and the QB should be praised for the wins and responsible for the losses. We needed a new face and direction. I can't believe the kind of stuff Jerry Angelo (the Bears' GM) is pulling. He cost the owner millions of more dollars because he refused to give Lovie an extension before last season's magical season started. And franchising a player is a tasteless move that many respectable organizations simply never do b/c it antagonizes players. The Broncos, for instance, pride themselves over the fact that they've never put a franchise tag on one of their players. (In case you're not aware of what franchising someone means, you're essentially under-paying one of your best players and handcuffing them from making their market value. It's not a good thing.) Anyway, the Texans are moving towards respectability, and I really hope Mario Williams will be really sick this next season and quiet some of the critics around the nation.

What do you mean? Briggs was getting like $700,000 or something. He turned down an extension last year, I think.

I heart VY as much as the next guy, but are you some kind of masochist? Ok most people admit it, we messed up. Now lets move on and stop dwelling on it.

Shoot, I just taded Carr for a 1st rounder on Madden. That pick turned out to be Colt McCoy (88 rookie rating). That's how we deal with the pain, we play Madden and NCAA.

i was indifferent towards the texans before that draft. i now playfully root against them because i think its funny. and now root for VY and the Titans to win.

i know its annoying somewhat on here because of the volume of posts similar to mine this last season. but i hardly made any of them. sorry to be me

so to boil it down screw the texans... go titans :)

Well when a team franchises a player they are to get the average salary of the top 5 salaries at their position in the league. Now that is , by definition, market value, however it does hamper the player in that they are unable to sign a long term deal and get the big signing bonus they would have gotten. Now there are negatives and positives to a franchise tag but I don't think its an incredibly bad thing for the player. The player's union agreed to it when the collective bargaining agreement was negotiated. The Team owners are merely using the system that was agreed upon.

like most of the VYOF who supposedly don't care about the Texans anymore, they always have to say something negative about them.

and oh look, how surprising. a dig on the Texans not taking VY in a thread that's got NOTHING to do with him.

That is a hell of alot, IMHO...who do they have their eye on? They have Cedric...It can't be Brady as I think they need a veteran QB to take that next step...

you must be one of those guys that got rejected the VERY FIRST time you asked a girl out because this "Texans will burn in hell for all eternity for not drafting Vince" talk is just like that.

I wish the Texans will somehow win a Super Bowl within the next 5 years not only to bring some respect to the franchise but also to shut you people up. If that's the way it is, then I am pretty sure you're still sulking about the Rockets passing on Rashard Lewis, huh?
