CHICAGO - Police presence is being increased at and around Fenger High School today in the wake of the beating death of 16-year-old Derrion Albert last week during a melee nearby. Police declined to be more specific about exactly what steps they are taking amid reports of a festering gang rivalry in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, but the beefed-up security will stay in place until the public perceives the school is safer, said Morgan Park District Commander Michael Kuemmeth. "Word is there will be more violence at the school on Monday. Don't think this is going to end," said the Rev. Victor Grandberry, community representative for the local school council, who said some Fenger parents will keep their children home today. A march and vigil for Albert outside Fenger, organized by his family will be held at 1 p.m. Originally, the vigil had been planned for Sunday, but Albert's family agreed to postpone it at the request of the Chicago Public Schools, said Albert's grandfather Joseph Walker. Meanwhile, four people were being questioned in connection with the attack, as an amateur video helped police identify several participants in the melee outside the Agape Community Center, 342 W. 111th St. That video was provided to Fox affiliate WFLD-Ch. 32., which turned it over to detectives Friday night. That has nothing to do with this, sir, with all due respect to the victims. I don't know what really happened before or after, but the truth of the matter is that some dude passed on to after-life because of something that has nothing to do with your comment.

As someone who instinctively thinks at least a couple of steps ahead before I act, I find it appalling how often I see people who can't even wrap their head around the simplest of cause and effect relationships. In this case, "if we keep beating on this kid, he could die". Sickening and disappointing.
Depressing and sad. I wonder if they considered shutting the school down altogether if they thought this level of violence was imminent again.

That's exactly what I'm suggesting. I live in Chicago now, and almost all of the violent crime in the city occurs on the South and West sides of the city.
Man thats messed up. Some guy probably lost his life because some kids wanted to look hard to their peers. I hope they all go to jail.
That just makes it all the sadder. To get your life taken away, because you are doing something better with your life.
Real men hit defenseless people with pieces of wood, in large numbers, and then run away to avoid any consequences to their actions. Any of those kids thats worth anything will come forward and at least admit to their part in this.
